Audit finds no documented uses for 19% of UW cash balances
A nonpartisan state audit has found no documented spending plans for $142 million in unrestricted program revenue balances the University of Wisconsin System and its campuses quietly carried over last year.

The Legislative Audit Bureau audit released Friday evaluated $755.4 million of the UW System's more than $1 billion in program revenue balances as of the end of the 2012 fiscal year. The audited amount included tuition, student fees and federal reimbursement for overhead costs associated with research. It did not include state tax dollars or program revenue that was restricted.
