200th birth anniversary of Anders Angstrom (1814-74), Swedish astronomer who deduced the principle of spectrum analysis. The angstrom unit of length, which measures ten-billionth of a meter, was named in his honor.

1521 - Present day Mexico City was captured by Spanish conqueror Hernando Cortez from the Aztec Indians.
