The unkindest cut of all: The Russian Solution for dealing with terrorism

The unkindest cut of all: The Russian Solution for dealing with terrorism | The Wilmington Examiner:
"Despite being then, as now, the former USSR/current Russian Federation being a major player in the region, not a single Soviet was ever taken hostage.
Not one.
There was a story floating around back then that very well could be an urban myth.
But true or not, it correctly painted quite a picture of that particular Russian trait of killing flies with sledgehammers.

As the story goes, Soviet intel uncovered a plot to nab some very minor Russian staffer in Lebanon by whatever group of terrorists who sought to make a name for themselves.
Supposedly, the leader of this particular group woke up one morning and noticed a small drinking glass on a table next to his bed.
Possibly somewhat disconcerting for the would-be abductor, there was no drinking glass on the table when he sacked out the night before.
In the water filled glass was some unrecognizable fleshy-looking material.
As the cautionary tale goes, next to the glass was a small note which said:
“These are your brother’s testicles.
Abandon your plan to harm any Soviet citizen.”
True story?
Who knows … who cares.
The fact of the matter is that no Russians were ever taken hostage back then.
Not one."
