Feds award $650K for Muskegon, Muskegon Heights public housing | MLive.com: "WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Thursday announced money for public housing projects, including more than $650,000 for Muskegon County housing authorities.
The funds are typically used for large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs old plumbing and electrical systems.
A total $31 million will go to public housing authorities in Michigan.
..."We plan to build a café in our lobby for our residents," said Muskegon Housing Commission Director Gerald Minott II.
He said the café design would allow make use of sunlight.
Other plans include new apartment flooring and a building-wide sprinkler system. Sprinkler systems are currently only on a few floors of the 42-year-old apartment building.
...The United States loses about 10,000 public housing units each year, primarily due to the units falling into disrepair, according to HUD."
