A University of Michigan Health System pharmacy supervisor who makes a six-figure salary kept getting promoted despite a conviction for stealing narcotic painkillers, records show.

In 2005, Denise Kathyrn Brower, who currently makes $138,551 a year as an assistant pharmacy director, had her license suspended and wasn't allowed to handle certain controlled substances while on work probation, according to records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
But the conviction didn't derail Brower's climb to a management position overseeing potent sedation medications as well as the very pills she was convicted of stealing.
