Road builders' group: Michigan drivers should pay $12 more a month
"A road builders' group wants Michigan drivers to pay $12 more a month in gas taxes and vehicle registration fees to improve the transportation system.
Motorists now spend $30 per month on roads and other infrastructure.
The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association unveiled a plan Wednesday with hopes of the Legislature passing it during the lame-duck session in December.
One proposal would eliminate the 19-cents-a-gallon gasoline tax and instead tax the wholesale price of gas. Another proposal would raise vehicle registration fees by 50 percent"
