Note To New York Times, MSNBC, WaPo and CNN: May Day Is Here and So Are the Actual Violent Protesters
"May Day is upon us – the day when the Communists, Socialists, Marxists and other nuts take to the streets to protest capitalism, individual freedom and America.
Coincidentally – I’m sure – it’s the same day immigration reform advocates will be marching en masse across America demanding amnesty for illegals."
Muskegon's Kyle Olson!
"How many voters are aware that the pending Senate reform bill includes a payback to unions in the form of a 'proxy access' that would allow labor to manipulate company boards?
How many are aware that the bill may give the Treasury Department the right to seize private property and businesses without any significant judicial review?"
The official minutes sorta left out much of the content out:
Jim Riley addressed the Board regarding Board Rules and public participation.
John McNally addressed the Board.
Chuck Woods thanked the Board for letter of support regarding Muskegon River Trailways
and Regional Association Letter of Support.
Chairman Mahoney recognized Dave Kieft, Muskegon Charter Township Supervisor, Mike
Thompson, Egelston Township Supervisor and Chuck Woods, City of North Muskegon
I was told someone would call me back when they were available and a nice woman just called and told me she was checking the "tape" but it had stopped about half way during the meeting.
The county clerk's office just called me and said they were sorry but the second half of the county commission full board meeting was just "not on the recording" so I wouldn't be able to buy a copy.
So, "they" have decided to abbreviate the official minutes.
To the benefit of our community?
Or is the county board of commissioners going to the mattresses?
Or is it the clerk who has decided just what the public should or should not see?
And now the recording just poofed away.
But the county web site still proclaims "Muskegon County welcomes public participation".
Rosemary Woods would be proud.
“Taking money from one bailout kitty to pay back another bailout fund.”
When I talked with Mark Tapscott yesterday, he called those GM bailout-payback commercials the most dishonest claims he’s seen in 30 years of covering politics and the auto industry.
“It is a lie.”"
Years ago, there was an informal "social contract"—public employees generally received lower wages than private-sector workers, and in return they got earlier retirement and generous pensions, allowing them to catch up. That arrangement has long since gone by the boards.
The result is a remarkable trend. State and local government employees for years have received pay increases in excess of inflation, and BLS figures show they now have wages that are 34% higher on average than in the private sector.
.... The average quit rate among state and local employees is a third of that in the private sector.
Public employees also have a 70% advantage in benefits..... In 2009, BLS figures indicate that the costs of health insurance were 2.18 times as much for state and local employees as for private-sector workers.
In the private sector, defined-benefit pensions have declined over the years in favor of defined-contribution plans such as the 401(k). In 2009, defined-benefit plans were available to only 21% of private-sector workers—but to 84% of municipal employees, according to the Cato Institute. And public-sector defined-benefit plans paid retirees about twice as much as those in the private sector.
Public-sector retirement costs also are high because many can retire at age 55 after 30 years of employment with pensions equal to 60% or more of final salary, which is often jacked up by lots of overtime in final working years. In some states, employees can "double dip" by retiring early and then resuming their previous jobs or taking other government positions. So they get salaries and pensions at the same time.
The answer to the problem is to attend to the problem, public sector unions, union rules and overpaid, underworked employees.
If you don't acknowledge the problem, you won't fix the problem.
"'We have to go this route,' he said.
'We are not defending Greece, we are defending the stability of our currency.'"
No shirt sherlock!
This ain't gonna be bon.
"We hooted recently over the Orange County Business Council’s new Web site, CaliforniaSquirrel.com, which targets the “distractions” elected officials pursue at the expense of more important public business."
This might be hilarious if we didn't have the exact same thing happening here in Michigan and Muskegon.
Of course we don't have time for financial "literacy" month here yet.
We're still celebrating National County Government Month! http://co.muskegon.mi.us/boardofcommissioners/govt_month_2010.htm
"When Grand Valley State University senior Jacob Taykowski took over another student's lease at Copper Beech Townhomes last year, he didn't realize it ended in late April, before he got a chance to tackle his five finals
'It's just a hassle trying to move your stuff out and studying for finals at the same time,' Taykowski said.
'It's just a pain.'"
And these "students" expect to be hired by any company?
I'd definately add them to my "do not hire cuz they're too stupid" list.
And you gotta love the GRP who decided this idiocy was worth publishing.
"No other worries here in Michigan that we might send our reporters to investigate".
And they wonder why their readership tanked.
"Democrats have decided that in order to prevent Wall Street from starting more financial meltdowns, wrecking the economy and leaving the American taxpayer holding the bag, we need to give more oversight authority to the same government employees who were busy surfing Internet porn as private investors frantically tried to warn them about Bernie Madoff."
"The Dodd – Goldman Sachs financial services takeover bill can be intimidating to understand for many people, including myself.
However, when all the smoke clears it really comes down to four basic points:"
"Let’s hope so, for the deficit challenge will loom like an appointment for a root canal once the recovery takes hold. Confronting it requires a recognition that tough choices simply can’t be avoided.
Indeed, Reischauer, who led CBO from 1989 to 1995, had this blunt advice for the panel.
“First, don’t waste time looking for silver bullets or new approaches that hold out the promise of painless sacrifice,’’ he said.
“There are none to be found.’’"

"Advice to Tea Partiers
Posted by Chris Moody
The Tea Party movement may endure, but its endurance will be a testament to its ability to understand that cutting government means having a long-term focus, says John Samples, author of the Cato book The Struggle to Limit Government. In a new video, Samples outlines an assessment of what Tea Partiers should do if they want to sustain an effort to cut government.
He offers five pieces of advice for members of the Tea Party movement:
1. Republicans aren’t always your friends.
2. Some tea partiers like big government.
3. Democrats aren’t always your enemies.
4. Smaller government demands restraint abroad.
5. Leave social issues to the states."
Instapundit » Blog Archive » MEGAN MCARDLE: The most terrifying words I’ve seen written so far about the growing crisis in Gre…
The most terrifying words I’ve seen written so far about the growing crisis in Greece were penned by Yves Smith yesterday: “So the whole idea that the financial crisis was over is being called into doubt. Recall that the Great Depression nadir was the sovereign debt default phase. And the EU’s erratic responses (obvious hesitancy followed by finesses rather than decisive responses) is going to prove even more detrimental as the Club Med crisis grinds on.”
The Great Depression was composed of two separate panics. As you can see from contemporary accounts–and I highly recommend that anyone who is interested in the Great Depression read the archives of that blog along with Benjamin Roth’s diary of the Great Depression–in 1930 people thought they’d seen the worst of things.
I hope that history isn’t repeating itself.

"At the March 20th Tea Party protest in Washington, Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., Rep. John Lewis D-Ga., and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver D-Mo. accused protesters of of yelling the N-word some 15 times at the black lawmakers.
Since then, no proof that this happened has emerged despite the presence of numerous cameras.
Well, Tea Partiers pushed back against the claims of racism hard — and an article in the Christian Science Monitor, “Why ‘tea party’ defenders won’t let N-word claims rest,” suggests they have had some success at convincing the mainstream media they were wrong to run with the accusations sans evidence"
"But when Whitacre says GM has paid back the bailout money in full, he means not the entire $49.5 billion—the loan and the equity.
In fact, he avoids all mention of that figure in his column.
He means only the $6.7 billion loan amount."
These liars could never get away with these misleading ads without the wholehearted support of the liberal media.
This is a national disgrace that Americans are lied to on national TV that GM has paid EVERYTHING back.
It is a lie!

3:30 today, tuesday april 27.
New parking ramp (again), airplane rentals subsidized?, more melting of the hiring freeze!
Be there or pay the price for your lethargy.
"Grand Valley State University would immediately lower tuition by 5 percent, if lawmakers pledge give the school the same level of funding the other state universities get, President Thomas Haas says."
Another bait and switch scam from the same folks who have given us underworked, overpaid, early-retiring educators who provide our state with a 52% graduation rate.
Sure promise the kids and their parents a quick fiscal fix now.
But keep the automatic faculty raises and benefits out of the conversation.
Oh yeah, and bump up the taxes for everyone left in our bankrupt state.
When will we begin to see these parasites for what they really are?
Here are some of the hilarious, spectacularly wrong predictions made on the occasion of Earth Day 1970."
I'm thinking many of these same "experts" are around today.
"Some of the most stunning articles I've read in a long while were in the Los Angeles Times' 2009 investigative series, 'Failure gets a pass,' which documents the near impossibility of firing unionized public school teachers in the massive Los Angeles Unified School District -- even those teachers credibly accused of sexually molesting or harassing their students"
If we continue to allow this, it will continue to grow, their power will grow and the end of our republic will be near.
We can stop this if we start attending local governmental meetings...NOW!
"By 2013, the amount of retirement money promised to employees of these public entities will exceed cash on hand by more than a trillion dollars."
Why are no (except Gov. Cristie) republicans running on this issue?
"A new Salt Lake Tribune poll of Republican delegates shows Bennett running in third, behind GOP challengers Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater.
Lee logged 37 percent support in the survey, while Bridgewater came in at 20 percent, and Bennett lagged at 16 percent."
This is what the tea party movement MUST continue to do.
Oust the RINOS and win elections!
"John Edwards was right.
There are two Americas, just not his two (the rich and powerful versus everyone else).
The real divide today is, on one side, the 20 million people who work for state and local governments and the additional 3 million who’ve retired with fat pensions.
On the other, the rest of us, roughly 280 million Americans.
In short, there’s a gulf between the bureaucrats and the people"
We tighten our belts so they can buy new, bigger belts.
Are we so timid that we will continue to let the unions destroy our fiscal lives....and out country?
While San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders insists bankruptcy is not on the city’s agenda, his administration is nevertheless alarmed over a labor-mounted campaign to take away the right of municipalities to declare insolvency and cancel contracts with their public employee unions.
The Senate Local Government Committee on Monday approved legislation that would require cities to first secure permission from an obscure appointed state agency before they could file for bankruptcy.
This simply means that a democrat/union controlled "agency" would deny a city's obligation to declare bankruptcy when there was no other option..... unless there was the option of forcing taxpayers to pay more.
No need to change union pay/benefits/retirement just like any other bankruptcy,
This will doom any hope of our municipalities to survive the attack of the public service union onslaught.

"The recovery is picking up steam as employers boost payrolls, but economists think the government's stimulus package and jobs bill had little to do with the rebound, according to a survey released Monday.
In latest quarterly survey by the National Association for Business Economics, the index that measures employment showed job growth for the first time in two years -- but a majority of respondents felt the fiscal stimulus had no impact."
"A RESEARCH paper from American academics is threatening to blow a hole in growing political support for carbon capture and storage as a weapon against global warming.
The paper from Houston University says that governments wanting to use carbon sequestration have overestimated its value and says it would take a reservoir the size of a small US state to hold the carbon dioxide produced by one power station."
"Jim McKenna, the Civil Aviation Authority's head of airworthiness, strategy and policy, admitted:
'It's obvious that at the start of this crisis there was a lack of definitive data."
This disaster cost hundreds of millions and more than a week of suffering and inconvenience.
And the nannies who made this decision had no "definitive" data?!!!
There's something in London......
This guy is our country's National Security Advisor?!!!
Imagine the "outrage" if he was a republican.
Imagine the "outrage" if he'd made a similar "joke" about a black.... or a muslim!
"The Democratic National Committee this morning released this clip of the president rallying the troops, if rather coolly, for 2010. Obama's express goal: 'reconnecting' with the voters who voted for the first time in 2008, but who may not plan to vote in the lower-profile Congressional elections this year.
Obama speaks with unusual demographic frankness about his coalition in his appeal to 'young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women who powered our victory in 2008 [to] stand together once again.'"
White males need not apply?
Imagine Mitch McConnell's comparable "speech".... "We want to reconnect with seniors, euro-Americans and of course, our manly-Americans, who all stand tall to propel our victory in 2010."
Why, in America today, is Obama be able to say what he said and a republican would be exoriated if he said the above?
"If you can't beat 'em, have Congress hobble 'em.
That's the motto of some in corporate America, and Exhibit A might be United Parcel Service's campaign to get Washington to impose its labor woes on rival Federal Express.
This would be one more union bailout at the expense of business competition and economic efficiency.
House Transportation Chairman James Oberstar (D., Big Labor) last year slipped 230 words into a spending bill that would make it easier for the Teamsters to unionize FedEx.
This ambush was included at the urging of UPS, which has been saddled with the Teamsters for decades ..."

"Where is Bill Clinton?
This ain’t no Tea Party!
Really, where is Bill Clinton?
Wasn’t he lecturing us just a week ago that protests could lead to violence?
Where are all the media talking heads who echoed Clinton’s absurd attempt to link the Tea Partiers to violence?
Yet, here’s a riot started by protesters against the new law in Arizona to toughen up enforcement on illegal immigration in Phoenix on April 23. Bottles were hurled at police and threats of violence that make even the rowdiest Tea Party look like a church picnic.
You’ll see the bottles thrown here, striking police officers who try to usher a lone anti-illegal immigration protester from the scene for his own safety:"

On Saturday, a former editorial page editor for the Wall Street Journal, George Melloan, made the connection even stronger as he pointed a finger at someone most in the media have shamelessly given a pass for his involvement in this crisis
To promote "affordable" housing, Bill Clinton had excused the two giant government-sponsored housing finance agencies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, from normal banking rules, allowing them leverage ratios far in excess of the limits on ordinary lenders.
Banks were forced to write risky mortgage loans, a large number of which were then folded into mortgage-backed securities that Fannie, Freddie and others sold internationally with triple-A ratings.
This business seized up, crippling banks throughout the world, when holders began to realize that the assets that backed the securities, home mortgages, were going under water at an alarming rate.
"President Obama wants to fix Wall Street.
May I suggest he start … on 'his' street.
Here's the deal:
'What' is the deal with castigating financial guys for being reckless, and saying nothing about Washington being, well, just a wreck?
What's the deal with blasting fat cats for showing little accountability and costing taxpayers billions…
And saying not a word about politicians in Washington showing 'no' accountability and costing taxpayers trillions?
And what's the deal demanding banks return every rescue dollar and never get too big to fail...
Not once acknowledging all those blown and now lost government dollars on spending programs too many to count?"

"A central Indiana school district argues that prohibiting a planned graduation ceremony prayer because of a federal lawsuit filed by the top-ranked senior would violate students' free speech rights.
The Greenwood school district responded this week to the lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana on behalf of Greenwood High School valedictorian Eric Workman.
Workman's suit calls the student-led prayer the senior class voted to approve unconstitutional."
So in Indiana, any one atheist kid can stop the rest of the class's decision?
What do you bet this kid is the spawn of liberal(s)?
"In Illinois, union protesters staged a huge rally in Springfield, demanding higher taxes for their self-serving agenda.
Thousands of protesters at Illinois Capitol to press for tax increase."

Polar Dance has been chosen for inclusion in a unique collection that represents the 40 most important nature photographs of all time.
I bought an original Polar Dance for Honeybunch back in the 1980's from Mangelsen's Park City Utah gallery.
I guess I should'a bought a few more!
THOMAS D. MANGELSEN'S Images of Nature
"Tom is pleased to announce Polar Dance has been chosen for inclusion in a unique collection that represents the 40 most important nature photographs of all time.

"So he closed the $2.2 billion gap by accepting 375 of 378 suggested spending freezes and cuts. In two weeks. By executive actions. In eight weeks he cut $13 billion -- $232 million a day, $9 million an hour. Now comes the hard part.
Government employees' health benefits are, he says, '41 percent more expensive' than those of the average Fortune 500 company. Without changes in current law, 'spending will have increased 322 percent in 20 years -- over 16 percent a year.' There is, he says, a connection between the state's being No. 1 in total tax burden and being No. 1 in the proportion of college students who, after graduating, leave the state.
Partly to pay for teachers' benefits -- most contribute nothing to pay for their health insurance -- property taxes have increased 70 percent in 10 years, to an average annual cost to homeowners of $7,281. Christie proposes a 2.5 percent cap on annual increases."
The next Reagan?
"The thousand-year reich of Downfall parodies has ended in ruins. Constantin Films, the German producer of the 2004 film Der Untergang, has compelled YouTube to start taking down the popular Hitler-rants-about-funny-thing-X clips."
"ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis praised socialism and said the Tea Party was a “bowel movement” filled with racists in a speech to a left-wing youth group, a new video shows.
.....The comments by Lewis came during a March 25 speech to the winter conference of the Young Democratic Socialists, which is the youth arm of the radical Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
DSA is closely tied to the Congressional Progressive Caucus, an 80-plus member group of left-wing Democratic lawmakers.
President Obama worked for ACORN’s Project Vote affiliate, trained ACORN organizers and represented ACORN as a lawyer.
Although ACORN leaders typically refuse to be labeled as socialists because they realize the term carries with it a negative connotation in American culture, Lewis openly embraced socialism.
“First of all let me just say any group that says, ‘I’m young, I’m democratic, and I’m a socialist,’ is alright with me,” Lewis said."
And the theme has been morphed into a simple concept: American capitalism=bad, Big American control and caring=good.
We are continuing to sow the seeds of our own destruction.
Just about every American school student since has been forced fed "An Inconvenient Truth" in our public schools.
With a "caring" teacher/mentor to provide answers to any student's inconvenient questions.
And today's "Earth Day" continues the eco-madrassah madness.
If we don't get some real science back into the schools NOW, the world will pay an enormous price.
Start going to your local school board meetings now and demand some balance in the propaganda or the bad guys win ......again.
Celebrate Earth Day!
Watch this video today.

Him: He is. He’s a wacko. He doesn’t know anything.
Me: How do you know that?
Him: Are you trying to make me mad?

Him: I’m not going to waste my time."

"Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'
People who have covered the White House for years tell me that's an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.
A reporter can be seen in the YouTube video above calling the move 'outrageous' and 'ridiculous.'"
"Is Boxer Inciting Violence Against Tea Party Protesters?
A couple of interesting bits in an LA Times item on Boxer and Obama doing some fundraising.
They note that Democrats criticized Bush for such efforts, but as with playing golf, Obama is actually doing it more often.
And I worry that Boxer is inciting violence by calling on her supporters to go toe to toe with Tea Party folks.
'Speaking of the ‘tea party' people, I think it's great that they are active and excited and ready to go,' she said.
'My question to you is are you ready to go toe-to-toe with them, cup by cup by cup?

"Since CBS probably won't be repeating the August 4 edition of 'The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn' anytime soon, here's a video still from that evening's infamous 'In The News' segment.
In a monumentally dumb bit, the show superimposed the words 'Snipers Wanted' over an image of Bush delivering his acceptance speech at the Republican convention.
Both CBS and David Letterman's Worldwide Pants (which produces Kilborn's nightly smugfest) apologized for the 'inappropriate and regrettable' graphic/threat.
TSG guesses this means that Dubya won't be taking Dave up on that offer to debate Al Gore on the Ed Sullivan stage. (1 page)"
PETER WEHNER: Bill Clinton’s Double Standard On Rhetoric.
“The problem for Mr. Clinton is that his concern about the dangers of incendiary rhetoric seems to have taken flight during the two terms of the Bush presidency, as well as during his own.
Regarding the former, there was, for starters, the 2006 film, The Death of a President, on the assassination of President Bush. . . .
Moreover, George W. Bush was, during his two terms in office, routinely called a war criminal, an international terrorist, and compared to Hitler [see a photo gallery here and here].
Signs with bullet holes in Bush’s forehead, with blood running down his face, were all part of the fun and games.
The president was accused of moral cowardice by Al Gore, of being a liar and the anti-Christ, and of being a totalitarian and dictatorial leader.
Members of Congress such as Keith Ellison compared the attacks on September 11 to the Reichstag fire. . . .
It’s also worth recalling that the Clinton administration organized, coordinated, and participated in some of the ugliest rhetoric we have seen in recent American politics.”
Clinton’s remarks are serving the salutary purpose of reminding people who and what he really was, and dispelling the glow of nostalgia for his presidency that even some conservatives and libertarians were beginning to feel.
UPDATE: Remember the Craig Kilborn / George W. Bush “Snipers Wanted” moment?

"Lenartowicz was also the financial supervisor for the Muskegon County sheriff's department."
Very sad when one so young and promising dies.
But, I suspect the police are looking at:
1. The "Celestial Bullet". The heart attack, fall or stroke that comes out of nowhere for a young person.
2. Random crime. A burglar or neighbor problem that just hit at the wrong time.
3. Marital/girlfriend/etc. problems. I see no mention of his wife/children/girlfriend/boyfriend. Any bad blood going on?
4. Suicide. Lots of possibilities for a young politician but I'd focus on his "financial supervisor for the Muskegon County sheriff's department" position. Lot's of opportunity to make mistakes there.
And plenty of precedent in Muskegon....and Wall Street.
How sad that I hope it's a stroke or heart attack.
"One man, who sported Nazi tattoos, was severely beaten near City Hall while another man, who carried a confusing sign about religion with a scribbled swastika, was pummeled by a mob of people on Spring Street between 1st and 2nd."

We'll probable see a lot of anguished looks on tomorrow's MSM's newsreader's faces about the violence from the .......I guess there isn't a right wing "group" listed in this article.
"The US Geological Survey says at least 102 aircraft encountered volcanic ash clouds between 1973 and 2003.
The risk is naturally greater when aircraft fly in areas of volcanic activity.
Studies suggest that ash from the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines in 1991 was responsible for 20 incidents involving aircraft. One US airline grounded its aircraft at Manila for several days.
When Mount Popocatepetl in Mexico erupted in 1997, there was minor disruption to flights, with one crew experiencing such reduced visibility after landing they had to look through the flight deck's side windows to see where they were going."
Theses are big eruptions, with little commercial airline interruption and no fatalities.

Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center states, 'Individuals associated with the Patriot movement during its 1990s heyday produced an enormous amount of violence, most dramatically the Oklahoma City bombing...'
Today, Mr. Potok states, 'as the movement has exploded, so has the reach of its ideas, aided and abetted by commentators and politicians...'"

City staff told the council that the increases in costs for employee salaries and benefits is approaching a point that is unsustainable.
The city is looking at the prospect of having employee expenses constitute 70 percent of its budget or more."
"If you had any doubt about the motivation of the Colorado Education Association when it comes to teacher tenure and evaluation reform, wonder no longer.
The CEA is playing what it considers to be its trump card.
By announcing last week that it will refuse to support the state's second-round application for a $175 million federal Race to the Top grant, the union is showing its true colors"
"If you were faced with by far the biggest bill of your life, would you not want to be confident that there was a very good reason why you should pay it?
That is why we need to know just how far we can trust the science behind the official view that the world is threatened with catastrophe by global warming – because the measures proposed by our politicians to avert this supposed disaster threaten to transform our way of life out of recognition and to land us with easily the biggest bill in history.
(The Climate Change Act alone, says the Government, will cost us all £18 billion every year until 2050.)"
.....The crown jewels of the IPCC’s case that the world faces catastrophic warming have been all those graphs based on tree rings which purport to show that temperatures have lately been soaring to levels never known before in history – thus eradicating all the evidence that the world was hotter than today during the Medieval Warm Period, long before any rise in CO2 levels.
Best known of these graphs, of course, was Michael Mann’s “hockey stick”, comprehensively discredited by the expert Canadian statistician Stephen McIntyre and Professor Ross McKitrick.
But the IPCC was able to defend its case with the aid of another set of “hockey sticks”, based on different tree rings, produced by Mann’s close allies at the CRU.
The most widely quoted of the Climategate emails was that from the CRU’s director, Philip Jones, saying that he had used “Mike’s Nature trick” to “hide the decline”.
If there was anything in the CRU’s record which a proper inquiry should have addressed it was the story behind this email, because what it highlighted was the device used by the CRU to get round the fact that its tree-ring data hopelessly failed to show the result the warmist establishment wanted.
When their Siberian tree rings showed temperatures in the late 20th century sharply dropping rather than rising, the “trick” used by Prof Jones and his colleague Dr Keith Briffa, copied from Mike Mann’s own “hockey stick”, was simply to delete the downward curve shown by the tree rings, replacing them with late 20th-century temperature data to show the dramatic warming they wanted.
The significance of this sleight of hand can scarcely be exaggerated.
Why, in using this misleading graph, did the IPCC not explain the trick that had been played by its leading scientists?
If tree rings were so inadequate in reflecting 20th-century temperatures, why should they be relied on to reflect temperatures in earlier centuries?
Why, when fresh Siberian tree ring data came to light, making a nonsense of the CRU’s earlier temperature reconstructions, did the CRU simply ignore the new data?
Anyone who has followed the meticulous analysis of this curious story by Steve McIntyre on his Climate Audit website might well conclude that we are looking here at a complete travesty of proper scientific procedure, matched only by the bizarre methods used by Mann himself to construct his original hockey stick.
Yet these are the men, Mann, Jones and Briffa, who acted as the “lead authors” of the key chapters of the IPCC’s 2001 and 2007 reports.
"Oakland County says it doesn’t plan to enforce Michigan’s smoking ban that’s set to take effect May 1.
County executive L. Brooks Patterson told WJBK-TV he’ll sue over the smoking ban next week. Patterson says the law amounts to an “unfunded mandate” if county health departments must oversee and enforce the ban.
Patterson says the county doesn’t have the resources to enforce the ban."

"Forget product placement, NBC Universal is trying “behavior placement” with some of its shows. Characters from programs such as “30 Rock” and “The Office” are acting out eco-friendly behaviors that advertisers hope will sway viewers.
WSJ’s Amy Chozick reports.
In just one week on NBC, the detectives on “Law and Order” investigated a cash-for-clunkers scam, a nurse on “Mercy” organized a group bike ride, Al Gore made a guest appearance on “30 Rock,” and “The Office” turned Dwight Schrute into a cape-wearing superhero obsessed with recycling."
Next time you consider purchasing a GE product.....think again.
"To balance the budget over the next 25 years, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says, would require an immediate and permanent increase in tax revenues, or reduction in spending outlays, equal to 5.4 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
To put that in context, that equals a 29 percent increase in all federal tax revenues relative to historical levels.
That means not just income taxes, but payroll taxes, corporate taxes, capital gains and dividends taxes, and other sources of revenue.
And it doesn’t mean just a 29 percent increase in tax rates, but—to account for the disincentive effects of higher taxes—even higher rates so that total revenue rises by 29 percent.
That’s a pretty big deal."

A senior Iranian cleric has claimed that dolled-up women incite extramarital sex, causing more earthquakes in Iran, a country that straddles several fault lines, newspapers reported on Saturday.
'Many women who dress inappropriately ... cause youths to go astray, taint their chastity and incite extramarital sex in society, which increases earthquakes,' Ayatollah Kazem Sedighi told worshippers at Tehran Friday prayer."

"So what was the major breakthrough announced by Obama at the end of the two-day conference?
That Ukraine, Chile, Mexico and Canada will be getting rid of various amounts of enriched uranium.
What a relief.
I don't know about you, but I lie awake nights worrying about Canadian uranium.
I know these people.
I grew up there.
You have no idea what they're capable of doing.
If Sidney Crosby hadn't scored that goal to win the Olympic gold medal, there's no telling what might have ensued.
Let us stipulate that sequestering nuclear material is a good thing.
But, it is a minor thing, particularly when Iran is off the table, and Pakistan is creating new plutonium for every ounce of Canadian uranium shipped to the U.S."

The resignation will be effective at the beginning of the 2010-11 school year, Hall said, giving the current board time to complete the budget process and allowing those who would potentially replace him time to familiarize themselves with the district"
It gets slimier:
"A long-awaited compromise bill to reduce U.S. emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases blamed for global warming will be unveiled by a group of senators on April 26, sources said on Thursday."
It's coming folks.
The democrats will vote this bill in if we Americans allow it.
Let's make some noise.
"Add to that the $30 billion the IRS estimates Americans will spend out-of-pocket on tax preparation (tax software programs, tax preparers, accountants etc.), and it's equal to the $139 billion annual output of the state of Oklahoma."
There is something seriously wrong with this.
It is entirely wasted effort and expense.
Especially when 47% of Americans don't pay, don't care.
"For the past 5 1/2 months, the initial unemployment claims data have not really changed.
Here’s what I mean:
The data are oscillating about a slowly increasing value, indicating that, if anything, unemployment claims are increasing.
That means that for the past 5 1/2 months, every time the administration has told us that the unemployment situation is slowly recovering, and that the data show “the right trend,” they have been absolutely mistaken.
The media has been doing their typical baby duck analysis: every day is a brand new day, every unemployment claims report is the first one they’ve ever seen.
So we get headlines like, “job situation improving” when the number of claims drops, and “unexpected increase” when the number rises.
For half a year the claims data has just been oscillating – going nowhere.
And nobody seems to have noticed."
"In fact, that wasn't his promise at all.
Here's what candidate Obama really said in September of 2008:
'Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase.
Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.'
Got that? 'Not any of your taxes.'
The claim of no tax hikes on those below $250,000 as a result of the current administration's policies is completely and utterly false.
A report from the House Ways & Means Committee's GOP members notes that, since January 2009, Congress and the president have enacted $670 billion in tax increases.
That's $2,100 for each person in America.
At least 14 of those tax hikes, the report says, break Obama's pledge not to raise taxes on those earning less than $250,000.
Roughly $316 billion of the tax hikes — 14 increases in all — hit middle-class families, the report says."

"Pension and retirement plans all over America have lost value.
Plans covering public school teachers, by their own admission, are underfunded by $332 billion.
However, the plans' real funding gap is far worse than their financial statements show, at nearly a trillion dollars--and you and I will bear the burden of covering their shortfall.
The story of how this happened is familiar:
States expanded their promises to retirees when times were good.
Then, the economy tanked, pension assets fell in value and states skirted their obligations to deposit cash in pension funds--all causing a funding gap.
But because benefits are contractually guaranteed, the obligation to cover any funding shortfall lies with taxpayers."
"Investors in municipal bonds should purchase higher-rated debt and diversify across the states, LaRosa said.
Buyers should focus on pre-refunded municipal bonds, a tax-exempt security payable from U.S. Treasuries in escrow that are left in the market after refinancing deals, and callable debt.
Lower-rated states, such as California and Illinois, are not yielding enough to merit the risk of investment, LaRosa said."

"What Obama and his empty showboaters failed even to acknowledge in their 'security' summit is the reality of the Post-Big Five nuclear age:
We're on the brink of a world in which the wealthiest nations, from Canada to Norway to Japan, can barely project meaningful force to their own borders while the nickel 'n' dime basket-cases go nuclear.
How long do you think that arrangement will last?"
Read it all and ...buy cans of spam?
"In years to come – assuming, for the purposes of argument, there are any years to come – scholars will look back at President Barack Obama's Nuclear Security Summit and marvel.
For once, the cheap comparisons with 1930s appeasement barely suffice:
To be sure, in 1933, the great powers were meeting in Geneva and holding utopian arms-control talks even as Hitler was taking office in Berlin.
But it's difficult to imagine Neville Chamberlain in 1938 hosting a conference on the dangers of rearmament, and inviting America, France, Brazil, Liberia and Thailand ...but not even mentioning Germany.
Yet that's what Obama just did:
He held a nuclear gabfest in 2010, the biggest meeting of world leaders on American soil since the founding of the United Nations 65 years ago – and Iran wasn't on the agenda."
"The White House made what to us looks like a tactical error yesterday when it insisted that CBS News pull down a blog post that indicated Elena Kagan, the Solicitor General and a frequently named candidate to replace John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court, is gay.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State men’s basketball coach Marvin Menzies says Jahmar Young will not return for his senior season and redshirt freshman Jacoby Patton has been dismissed from the team indefinitely.
Menzies made the announcement in a statement issued by the university today.
Young was arrested early Sunday and charged with battery on a peace officer after he and a group of people were reportedly being disruptive inside a Las Cruces convenience store.
Young claimed not to know who Michigan State point guard Kalin Lucas was before the teams met in the first round of the NCAA tournament last month.
"We don't shy away from battles," Young said at the time. "We like tough games, you know. It's also a plus to play a name … what's his name?"
"Kalin Lucas. I really never even heard of him. But if he's that good, it'll show."
Patton was also arrested on a misdemeanor charge following the same incident with Young.

But this is a simple yawn from the MSM.
