There was absolutely no diplomatic consulate in Benghazi.
None.
Words are important here.
They can create a wrong image, an incorrect picture of what was really going on.
The property where our Ambassador and other Americans were murdered was a rented villa consisting of a primary residence with a couple of outbuildings behind the actual house.
The reason they’re still calling it a consulate is to subtly divert any questions about our activities there.

How about the biggest losers?
From 2000-09, the metropolitan areas that suffered the biggest net domestic migration losses resemble something of an urbanist dream team: New York, which saw a net outflow of a whopping 1.9 million citizens, followed by the Los Angeles metro area (-1,337,522), Chicago, Detroit, and, despite recent improvements, San Francisco-Oakland.
The raw numbers make it clear that California has lost its appeal for migrants from other parts of the U.S., and has become an exporter of people and talent (and income).

Cox and Archer: Why $16 Trillion Only Hints at the True U.S. Debt - WSJ.com
We most often hear about the alarming $15.96 trillion national debt (more than 100% of GDP), and the 2012 budget deficit of $1.1 trillion (6.97% of GDP).
As dangerous as those numbers are, they do not begin to tell the story of the federal government's true liabilities.
The actual liabilities of the federal government—including Social Security, Medicare, and federal employees' future retirement benefits—already exceed $86.8 trillion, or 550% of GDP.
For the year ending Dec. 31, 2011, the annual accrued expense of Medicare and Social Security was $7 trillion.
Nothing like that figure is used in calculating the deficit. In reality, the reported budget deficit is less than one-fifth of the more accurate figure.
Why haven't Americans heard about the titanic $86.8 trillion liability from these programs?

After fiscal cliff comes fiscal avalanche

LEE: After fiscal cliff comes fiscal avalanche - Washington Times
While Washington is preoccupied with the so-called fiscal cliff, little attention has been given to the fiscal avalanche that will occur if we continue down an unsustainable, long-term path, causing markets to turn sour on U.S. debt and leading to a spike in interest rates.
Such a eurolike crisis would make the fiscal cliff look like a dip in the road.
Unlike driving off a cliff, which you can see coming and make last-minute adjustments to avert, we cannot predict with any reasonable certainty when the avalanche will break.
If it does, there will be little anyone can do to prevent its devastating effects.

Shortly after World War II, Churchill and Truman were riding a train to Fulton Missouri to give speeches. Churchill gave his, now famous, "Iron Curtain" speech; and no one can remember what Truman said.
During the train ride Truman was eager to show Winston Churchill the new National emblem that Truman had modified.
The eagle no longer looked toward the arrows in the left talon of the eagle but had shifted its gaze toward the olive branch in its right talon.
Churchill was quoted as saying that perhaps the head should be on a swivel so that it could look either the right or the left as was needed at the time.
Truman was not amused.

The ultimate irony of the unions' attack on Walmart is that the low prices the company has introduced to retailing have enhanced the standard of living of the poorest Americans, enabling them to get more for their limited funds.
This poverty-fighting role of the company is never acknowledged on the left.
But by their behavior, we can tell that the poorest Americans, (cruelly - and hilariously -- mocked by the website People of Walmart) understand what Walmart does for them.

The GOP Turnout Myth

Strassel: The GOP Turnout Myth - WSJ.com
Even as Republicans have engaged in some agonizing over their candidate and agenda, many have sought comfort in the notion that a big part of the loss came down to simple mechanics. President Obama had a stunning Election Day operation, which turned out his base. Mitt Romney's shop, by contrast, failed to get people to the polls.
That explanation is soothing because it suggests that, in the future, all the GOP needs is a slicker piece of get-out-the-vote software.
It's also broadly wrong.
The turnout myth comes from a statistic that has been endlessly repeated: Mitt Romney got fewer votes than John McCain in 2008.
This isn't quite true (Mr. Romney this week eked past the McCain totals), and in any event it is somewhat irrelevant.
The Romney vote count reflects a nationwide voter turnout that was down nearly five percentage points from 2008.
What matters is how the GOP did in the battleground states.

Tim Skubick: Governor proposes way to stabilize funding for firefighters, cops and other essential local services

Tim Skubick: Governor proposes way to stabilize funding for firefighters, cops and other essential local services | MLive.com
Instead of a tax cut that everyone else received, the big guys were tagged with a defacto tax increase. They muttered about it but were told to be patient.
So they’ve been waiting on the sidelines for their turn and that is at hand with a proposed repeal of the personal property tax (PPT) on business equipment.
The governor has hatched a new deal to grant tax relief for the manufacturers while at the same time restoring money to local governments that deeply rely on the PPT to fund their firefighters, cops and other essential services.
The repeal of the PPT costs locals $800 million and some loose change, so you can see why they are worried.
Already whacked by the loss of state revenue sharing and declining local property tax collections, another $800 million hit is the equivalent of Hurricane Sandy hitting the mitten-state.
The governor’s solution is to re-allocate (a.k.a. steal) 1.5% of the money collected on the state use tax, which is basically a tax on business equipment that comes in over state lines.
The revenue would repay about 90% of what the cities and townships lose.
The locals were worried that in order to receive the payback, they would have to beg the legislature every year to do it.
With the turnover in those ranks, there was no guarantee that future salons might help.
Solution: The governor would create an entity outside of government to be a pass through vehicle through which the locals get their money without a legislative vote.
While that sounds good, future lawmakers could change that down the road after this governor leaves or even before.
The locals were worried that in order to receive the payback, they would have to beg the legislature every year to do it.
Plus you’ll likely have some push back from those who now get the 1.5% of the use tax and don't want to share it with anybody else.

Hefty School Employee Pensions Burden State Taxpayers

Hefty School Employee Pensions Burden State Taxpayers [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
When Flint Community Schools Superintendent Linda Thompson made news that she was going to retire, what was missed was the fiscal impact of her leaving the school system.
Thompson worked 36 years for the Flint school district and will be 57 when she retires.
A public school employee who worked 36 years for Flint schools and made Thompson's average salary of $175,649 the past three years would earn a pension of $94,850 a year.
If that 57-year-old retiree received a pension for the 26 years of his or her life expectancy with a 3 percent cost of living annual increase, it would grow to $204,552 a year.
"They are getting lavish benefits from an underfunded pension system,” said James Hohman, a fiscal policy analyst with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
"But the terms are the terms.
The problem with the pension system is the politicians don’t put enough money aside for it.
It's not her fault that politicians can't be trusted to manage a pension."
Thompson's benefits are part of the guarantees written into the contracts she worked under in her time in the district. The generous terms highlight the need for serious reform of the taxpayer-funded teacher pensions systems. The Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System’s unfunded liability has reached $22.4 billion.
One reason is the state tacks on a 3-percent annual cost of living adjustment to many of the pensions of public school retirees...
A 2010 study done by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy found that only 6 of 24 major private companies in Michigan had a defined benefit pension plan similar to what teachers are offered.
And none of the 24 private companies offered cost-of-living increases.

Downgrade Diary: Waiting for the Return of the Old Gods

Downgrade Diary: Waiting for the Return of the Old Gods
That's the real message of the election: There is no electoral majority of any significance either for either stimulus economics or cutback economics.
Obama has no mandate; he merely was better in rousing his base for one day.
Romney, even if he had squeaked out a "victory," would have had no backing for trying to reverse our headlong plunge toward the abyss.
We don't have the vision and/or guts to make the choices that could save us; so the crash will come.
Maybe there isn't a way.
Maybe we've gone too far; maybe as has been said democracy ends when 50.1 percent of the voters realize they can plunder the rich and the public treasury.
Maybe the mass delusion that we can magically create wealth is too widespread.

My main consolation is that the change will uproot many of the delusions that have sprouted up.
My main fear is that history shows this is never, ever, a peaceful process.

In Unlearning Liberty, Lukianoff notes that baby-boom Americans who remember the student protests of the 1960s tend to assume that U.S. colleges are still some of the freest places on earth.
But that idealized university no longer exists.
Today, university bureaucrats suppress debate with anti-harassment policies that function as de facto speech codes.
FIRE maintains a database of such policies on its website.
What they share, lifelong Democrat Lukianoff says, is a view of 'harassment' so broad and so removed from its legal definition that 'literally every student on campus is already guilty.'"

In 37 Chicago Precincts, Romney Received No Votes

Newsalert: In 37 Chicago Precincts, Romney Received No Votes
In 37 Chicago Precincts, Romney Received No Votes
NBC Chicago reports:
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that in 59 Philadelphia precincts, Mitt Romney did not receive a single vote. So Ward Room decided to look at the results in the president’s hometown, and see if he won as many shutouts here. The answer: no. Romney was rejected by every voter in only 37 Chicago precincts, an embarrassing result, given that segregation and Machine politics are two of our city’s most notable qualities.
Any doubt there was some vote fraud? Check out this comment on NBC Chicago's website:
In critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois there are a lot of precincts in Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Chicago which reported 100% of their votes cast for Obama. These add up to many 10's of thousands of votes for Obama and 0 for Romney. I repeat, 0 for Romney. I have read a number of articles about this and people knowlegable in Political Science and Statistics are starting to take notice of this.Statistically, even if among 10's of thousands of voters all wanted to vote for Obama, it would not be possible to receive 100% of the vote because at least a few would make a mistake and vote incorrectly for Romney. Not to mention the fact that a least a few of those 10's of thousands might actually disagree with Obama. These types of election returns are only seen in countries run by dictators.
Just a reminder to those who want to get rid of the electoral college: corrupt Chicago voting practices could and would determine an election. Vote fraud occurs in Chicago because the U.S. Attorney doesn't want to conduct a simple investigation of those 37 precincts. Is there similar hand writing on any of those ballots ? Did any dead people vote ? Since Chicago lost 6.9% of its population in the 2010 Census : were any of those 37 precincts in the declining population wards? Maybe, if Chicago had a legitimate U.S. Attorney some of these questions would be answered. No word on this story from "alleged" former crime fighter and Obama "protector" Patrick Fitzgerald. Is Barack Obama and the U.S. Attorney's Office afraid of this milk story???

From the period between December 2007 and June 2010, the Federal Reserve had secretly bailed out many of the world’s banks, corporations, and governments.

Two large city of Muskegon labor contracts extended setting up critical negotations at the end of 2013 | MLive.com
The city of Muskegon and its two major labor unions represented by the Service Employees International Union Local 517M have decided to put off issues of pay, benefits and contract provisions for a year.
But that sets up a consolidation of city contracts coming due at the end of 2013. This time next year the city will face some critical labor negotiations.
The Muskegon City Commission unanimously approved a one-year contract extension with the SEIU Local 517M for both the city clerical and public works employees.
The contract extensions continue current salaries, benefits and contract language through Dec. 31, 2013, according to City Manager Bryon Mazade.
“From our standpoint, we have decided not to negotiate a new contract at this time,” Mazade said. “We are avoiding the time, effort and cost of negotiating a new contract.”

Obama Gave Gen. Petraeus And Wife Holly Big Government Salaries - Investors.com
On top of Gen. Petraeus' sizable government salary, CNSNews reports that since last year his wife Holly, the victim of Petraeus' alleged affair with author Paula Broadwell, has been enjoying a $187,605 salary as an assistant director within the Dodd-Frank law's new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Obama has made sure the Petraeuses were well within the top 1% (courtesy of the 99%, of course), with a combined government-provided annual income not too far from $400,000.
The CFPB, which is expected to destroy thousands of small banks, is funded by the Federal Reserve, so Congress has no oversight over it.
Indeed, Mrs. Petraeus' post is not subject to Senate confirmation.
It may be months before the public knows what Gen. Petraeus knows about Bengazi, but when a president "invests" so much money in both you and your wife, where is your loyalty likely to go?

NetRight Daily » Why governors should not implement state insurance exchanges under Obamacare
By not implementing the state exchange, governors such as Rick Perry in Texas or Bob McDonnell in Virginia are effectively giving employers in those states the standing to sue against the new IRS rule.
In other words, it creates an avenue to fight against the implementation of the law.
For employers that do not wish to be under Obamcare’s thumb, such a move at least gives them a fighting chance.
But if the exchange is implemented by the states, employers in those states will not have any chance at all to challenge the law.

Allen West, Mitt Romney and the Massive Voter Fraud Machine

Allen West, Mitt Romney and the Massive Voter Fraud Machine
On the national front, there have been widespread stories of electronic voting machines switching votes for Mitt Romney to votes for Barack Obama. The reports began with early voting in some states and continued through Election Day.
Now, a Chicago technician named Steve Pickrum, who worked for the election supervisor, is saying that when he was called to service some voting machines on Election Day, he observed that the machines were not counting votes for Romney.
“On early voting, when I did work on the floor when voters needed help using the equipment, I was able to see the preference of the voter, and every time that I saw a voter voted for Romney, a ‘voter save failure’ message came up on the screen,” he said.
He also said when he went to vote, he got the same error message and told a poll worker, who replied that he should just assume his vote was counted.
He demanded that the worker check the vote record, and his vote had not been recorded.
Pickrum said he never saw the error occur when someone voted for Obama.

Yet on close examination, the city's decades-long journey from prosperous, middle-class community to bankrupt, crime-ridden, foreclosure-blighted basket case is straightforward — and alarmingly similar to the path traveled by many municipalities around America's largest state.
San Bernardino succumbed to a vicious circle of self-interests among city workers, local politicians and state pension overseers.

Daily Kos: Buying Debt - What OWS has been up to.

Daily Kos: Buying Debt - What OWS has been up to.
Brilliant!
Why hasn't anyone thought of this sooner?
If you are in debt, from medical issues or what have you, most companies sell that debt to a debt collection company that hounds you to pay it off. Usually buying the debt is cheap.
A few hundred dollars will buy you thousands of dollars of debt. So a company pays $500 for $10,000 of bad debt.
The company calls and harrasses you and says they got a great deal for you - pay them just $2000 and they will wipe the debt away.
They make a 400% profit as they act like vultures on the poor and downtrodden.

Let me tell you of the brilliant plan Occupy Wall Street has come up with.
They bought $14,000 of bad debt for a whopping $500 and then "poof" made the debt disappear forever!

Now OWS is launching the ROLLING JUBILEE, a program that has been in development for months. OWS is going to start buying distressed debt (medical bills, student loans, etc.) in order to forgive it. As a test run, we spent $500, which bought $14,000 of distressed debt.
We then ERASED THAT DEBT.
And now they are taking it nationwide with a show and fundraiser.
AND YOU CAN HELP.
A brilliant name too - The People's Bailout.

Foodstamps Surge By Most In One Year To New All Time Record, In Delayed Release

Foodstamps Surge By Most In One Year To New All Time Record, In Delayed Release | ZeroHedge
There was, however, another closely tracked number which perhaps is far more indicative of the economic "growth" in the past 4 years, which certainly had a delayed release.
The number of course is that showing how many Americans are on foodstamps, and usually is released at the end of the month, or the first day or two of the next month.
This time the USDA delayed its release nine days past the semi-official deadline, far past the election, and until Friday night to report August foodstamp data.
One glance at the number reveals why: at 47.1 million, this was not only a new all time record, but the monthly increase of 420,947 from July was the biggest monthly increase in one year.
One can see why a reported surge in foodstamps ahead of the elections is something the USDA, and the administration may not have been too keen on disclosing.

US homeownership rate falls to a 17-year low of 65.3% in Q3 as ‘homeownership bubble’ continues to deflate

Carpe Diem | AEIdeas
Comment: The political obsession with homeownership starting in the mid-1990s raised the U.S. homeownership rate from below 64% in 1994 to an artificial level above 69% by 2004, but obviously failed to create a homeownership rate that was sustainable in the long run.
Government housing policies did increase the homeownership rate in the short-run, but in the process turned good renters into bad homeowners, created a housing bubble, waves of foreclosures, and a subsequent housing meltdown and financial crisis.

Diane Sawyer was definitely probably drunk tonight during ABC's election coverage.
Would you agree?
Not convinced yet? S
he slurred every other word, rambled about the lack of music, and asked a correspondent if the exclamation point in the Obama slogan represented the direction he truly wanted to go with his presidency.

Time for Hollywood to pay its fair share

Sunday Reflection: Time for Hollywood to pay its fair share | WashingtonExaminer.com
I'd actually go further than that. It's not just Eva Longoria who doesn't need a tax break -- it's her entire industry, which has enjoyed favorable tax treatment in all sorts of ways, at both the federal and state levels, for years.
And now, with the federal government and the states in parlous financial condition, it's time for those fat cats to shoulder more of the burden.
Why should burger flippers at Wendy's have to cover the national debt while Hollywood moguls enjoy yachts, swimming pools and private jets?

Suppression! Officials Try to Prevent Woman Wearing MIT Shirt From Voting | Jammie Wearing Fools
In Florida, of course, where some people are too stupid to know what MIT stands for.

A woman attempting to vote in West Boca Raton this morning was initially prohibited from entering the polling place because she was wearing a tee shirt with the letters MIT.
BocaNewsNow.com has heard from multiple sources that an election supervisor at the polling place ultimately realized that MIT stands for “Massachusetts Institute of Technology” — a school where students tend to know how to spell — and was not a campaign shirt for the Republican candidate, who spells his name MITT.
Campaigning is not permitted within several yards of a polling place.
The woman was ultimately allowed to vote.

Foreign election officials amazed by trust-based U.S. voting system | The Cable
"It's very difficult to transfer this system as it is to anyother country.
This system is built according to trust and this trust needs alot of procedures and a lot of education for other countries to adopt it,"Elabbar said.

The most often noted difference between American electionsamong the visitors was that in most U.S. states, voters need no identification.

Obamacare Drops Full-Time Employment

Obamacare Drops Full-Time Employment | Via Meadia
We’re still years away from the full implementation of Obamacare, but the unintended consequences of the law are already emerging.
Student insurance is harder to come by, companies are dropping insurance coverage for employees, and now they may be dropping full-time employment as well amidst the weakest economy in decades.
