The math question that has everyone puzzled because 5+5+5 is NOT 15

The math question that has everyone puzzled because 5+5+5 is NOT 15 | Daily Mail Online
Common Core gets a Fail for common sense: Angry parents baffled by third grade math question that claims 5+5+5=15 is NOT correct
The above two questions were marked wrong because children are taught to read multiplication questions as the first number, grouped in the amount of the second number. For example, 5x3 would be five groups of three
  • A math quiz has been circulating the internet, showing how one third-grader got the wrong answer for a seemingly easy question
  • The question was to use repeated addition to solve 5x3
  • The student wrote 5+5+5=15, but was marked incorrect
  • According to grading standards, the question should have been interpreted as five groups of 3, therefore 3+3+3+3+3=15
  • While many have criticized the grading practice as a result of Common Core, the Common Core does not regulate lesson plans
