Conservatives Win Big Fight Over ‘Radically Revisionist’ High School American History Curriculum | TheBlaze.com:

"The previous incarnation of AP American history standards — which took a decade to put in place — were released last year to a volley of criticism. Names such as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and John Adams were omitted and detractors said negatives in U.S. history were emphasized while positives — such as America’s role in winning World War I and World War II — were tamped down.

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said the course was so anti-American that those who completed it would be “ready to sign up for ISIS.”

"University also raised tuition while enacting other cost-saving measures
Syracuse University – a 2015 “Best Value School” according to U.S. News & World Report – recently began offering employees a retirement incentive package on the heels of an audit which found more than 200 managers oversee just one person each.
The report states 211 managers, or 30 percent, have only 1 “direct report,” and another 134 managers have just two people reporting to them.
Ninety-three managers have three people reporting to them, it adds, noting the private university employs “too many decision makers...”

Wayne County edges toward state control as Snyder confirms emergency

Wayne County edges toward state control as Snyder confirms emergency - Crain's Detroit Business
Wayne County moved closer to state oversight after Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder affirmed the county’s financial emergency status Thursday.
The confirmation came eight days after Snyder said he agreed with a state review team that found a fiscal crisis in the county amid budget shortfalls and rising pension costs.
The governor’s move gives the county commission seven days to choose one of four options: a consent agreement, mediation, an emergency manager or a Chapter 9 bankruptcy.
The consent pact, which would chart a plan with the state for how to revive the county’s finances, is preferred by County Executive Warren Evans.
That would keep the county’s current leadership in control..."

“A lead character in the documentary tonight is Chris Farrell, who’s our lead investigator,” Fitton explained on The Glenn Beck Program. “He’s a former counterintelligence officer with the U.S. Army. … Chris and our other colleagues on our investigative and journalist staff have uncovered shocking information at the border.”

An alt view-----The Obama Administration Should Stop Lying About Iran

The Obama Administration Should Stop Lying About Iran - Reason.com:
Barack Obama and John Kerry are playing with fire.
They presumably want Congress and the American public to accept the nuclear agreement they and four other governments struck with Iran, but they work against their own objective by accepting the false premise of their opponents: namely, that Iran's regime is untrustworthy, dangerous, bent on becoming a nuclear power, and containable only by a U.S. readiness to wage war.
Who knows if the president and secretary of state really believe this?
But they ought to know that this premise is wrong.
Their incentive to accept the false premise is obvious.
Neither wants his obituary to declare that his greatest achievement was to persuade Iran not to develop a weapon it had no intention of developing.
...It would be better for Obama and Kerry to tell the truth for once:
Iran has not been seeking a nuclear bomb.
This has long been well-understood by American and Israeli intelligence and military agencies.
As former CIA analyst Ray McGovern points out, George W. Bush had to give up plans to attack Iran in 2007 because a National Intelligence Estimate signed by all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies found that Iran had stopped (alleged) research on nukes four years earlier.
This conclusion was renewed regularly in subsequent years.
In fact, as Gareth Porter notes, "US national intelligence estimates during the Bush administration concluding that Iran had run such a program, including the most famous estimate issued in November 2007, were based on inference, not on hard intelligence."
We have many other indications of Iran's non-interest in nukes, all of which are documented by Porter, the man who literally wrote the book on the case. (See Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare.)"...

Time is Running Out to Fix Social Security

Time is Running Out to Fix Social Security | Economics21
Social Security finances are on an unsustainable trajectory requiring legislated corrections as soon as they can be enacted.
The essential problem is that the program’s costs are growing faster than its tax base.
This is inherently unsustainable and requires correction.
The sooner the pace of cost growth can be slowed to a sustainable rate the better, both in terms of equity across generations, and to fix the problem before it becomes intractably large.

The Closed Covenants

The Closed Covenants - The New York Sun:
"A remarkable four minutes of video has emerged from Secretary of State Kerry’s testimony before the Senate.
It shows the Secretary squirming under the questioning of Senator Cotton on what the agile Arkansan calls the “two secret side deals” between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran.
They are related to inspections of the Iranian regime.
The video shows the two leaders of the American negotiating team — Mr. Kerry and Secretary Moniz of the energy department — stating that they don’t know who, if anyone, has read these two secret agreements...
“Why can’t we confirm or deny the content of these agreements in public?” Mr. Cotton inquires. “Why is it classified.
It’s not a sensitive U.S. government document.
The ayatollahs know what they’ve agreed to.
“Because,” Mr. Kerry replies, “we respect the process of the AEAI, and we don’t have their authorization to reveal what is a confidential agreement between them and another country.”
Senator Cotton then asks him:
“So the ayatollahs will know what they’ve agreed to but not the American people...”

“Secretary Kerry, it is duly noted that you do not apologize to the families of the service members that were murdered by the Iranian military,” Cruz replied. “Do you apologize or not? I don’t want to put words in your mouth — so which one is it?”

School district issues gag order amid Confederate name change kerfuffle

School district issues gag order amid Confederate name change kerfuffle - EAGnews.org:
"SAN ANTONIO – An Obama cabinet official can express his personal opinion about changing the name of San Antonio’s Robert E. Lee High School on social media, but employees of the actual school cannot.
Officials with the North East Independent School District made that clear in a memo sent to school employees this week amid calls to rename the school in the wake of a deadly race-motivated church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, KENS 5 reports.
In June, Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, the former mayor of San Antonio, posted a link to a story on Facebook about the removal of the Jefferson Davis statue from the Kentucky Capitol with a message for his home town:
“Glad to see this. In San Antonio, North East ISD should call together a group of board members, students and community members to change the name of Robert E. Lee High School as well.
There are other, more appropriate individuals to honor and spotlight as role models for our young people.”
Castro is rumored to be a possible vice presidential candidate in 2016, according to the San Antonio Current.
Castro’s post is no longer on his Facebook page, but it did spark a conversation about a potential name change that didn’t receive a very warm reception from district officials.
“We were surprised to see the social-media post (from Castro),” Aubrey Chancellor, spokeswoman for NEISD, told the San Antonio Express-News.
“We have not heard from any community members, parents, students, anyone at all, asking for a name change.
In fact, since news of the comment came out, I’ve actually heard from numerous alums of Lee High School who are adamantly opposed to changing the name.”
Regardless, the debate rages on, and the NEISD is silencing its employees in hopes of quelling the controversy.
In a memo sent to employees Tuesday, district officials contends employees’ First Amendment rights are trumped by the NEISD’s “interest in making sure there are no disruptions to its schools,” KENS 5 reports.
“As you may be aware, North East ISD has been in the spotlight recently regarding the name of Robert E. Lee High School. While we understand that people have passionate opinions on this issue, it is important to remember that as District employees, you must be careful in expressing those opinions publicly as they are likely to cause disruptions to the operations of schools,” the memo read.
“Because there has already been substantial disruption to Lee High School and Central Office as a result of this topic, the District is hereby directing that employees refrain from engaging in those communications regarding the naming of the school, or any related topics,” it continues.
“The District understands that employees have First Amendment rights, but such rights must be balanced against the District’s compelling interest in making sure there are no disruptions to its schools, and the law allows for limitation of district employees’ speech when it causes any such disruption...”

Buck Says These ‘Indefensible’ Positions Are Why He’s Glad He’s Not a Democrat | Video | TheBlaze.com:

"Sexton said the reason Democrats cling to “fake issues” — for instance, focusing on the “war on women” during the 2012 election instead of actual wars being fought around the globe — is part of a larger plan that he called the “don’t look too closely at our crap-tastic policies effect.”

“Real issues get pushed aside, and fake issues suddenly appear out of nowhere and hog all the airtime,” he said. “The left loves to talk about fake issues rather than real ones. I can’t blame them. I mean, imagine what it’s like being a liberal and trying to defend your policies.”

IRS Used Instant Messaging System to Hide Internal Communications

IRS Used Instant Messaging System to Hide Internal Communications | Americans for Tax Reform
"The IRS used a “wholly separate” instant messaging system that automatically deleted office communications, according to documentation released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday.
The system appears to have been purposefully used by agency officials responsible for the targeting of conservative non-profits, in order to evade public scrutiny.
The system, known as “Office Communication Server” or OCS was used by IRS officials, including many in the Exempt Organizations (EO) Unit, which was headed by Lois Lerner.
As the Oversight Committee report states, the instant messaging system did not archive any communications, so it is not possible to know what employees of the EO unit discussed on it.
However, in an email uncovered by the Committee Lerner warns her colleagues about evading Congressional oversight:
“I was cautioning folks about email and how we have had several occasions where Congress has asked for emails and there has been an electronic search for responsive emails – so we need to be cautious about what we say in emails.”
Lerner then asks whether OCS is automatically archived.
When informed it was not, Lerner responded “Perfect.”... "

Ex-Planned Parenthood Director’s Shocking Claim About Fetal Body Parts Controversy | TheBlaze.com:
"A pro-life activist who worked as the director of a Texas Planned Parenthood clinic for eight years before her views on abortion profoundly changed believes that Planned Parenthood is making a profit of between $100 and $200 for each aborted fetus.

“Shipping only costs a clinic $4 to $10 but they are sometimes charging $100 to $200 for each baby,” Abby Johnson told The Christian Post. ”They are charging additional fees, but in reality there are no additional fees except for minimal shipping costs. There is definitely money to be made and that’s an issue with the current law.”

The 2015 Untrustworthies Report——Why Social Security Could Be Bankrupt In 12 Years

The 2015 Untrustworthies Report——Why Social Security Could Be Bankrupt In 12 Years | David Stockman's Contra Corner:
The so-called “trustees” of the social security system issued their annual report last week and the stenographers of the financial press dutifully reported that the day of reckoning when the trust funds run dry has been put off another year—-until 2034.
So take a breath and kick the can.
That’s five Presidential elections away!
Except that is not what the report really says.
On a cash basis, the OASDI (retirement and disability) funds spent $859 billion during 2014 but took in only $786 billion in taxes, thereby generating $73 billion in red ink.
And by the trustees’ own reckoning, the OASDI funds will spew a cumulative cash deficit of $1.6 trillion during the 12-years covering 2015-2026.
So measured by the only thing that matters—-hard cash income and outgo—-the social security system has already gone bust.
What’s more, even under the White House’s rosy scenario budget forecasts, general fund outlays will exceed general revenues ex-payroll taxes by $8 trillion over the next twelve years..."

Study: Bullies Have Higher Self-Esteem, Social Status

Study: Bullies Have Higher Self-Esteem, Social Status « CBS Atlanta:
"Bullying behaviors are linked to higher self-esteem, social status, and a lower rate of depression, according to a new provocative study.
Researchers at Simon Fraser University observed a group of high school students finding that bullies had the highest self esteem, greatest social status, and were less likely to be depressed, as reported by National Post.
“Humans tend to try to establish a rank hierarchy,” Jennifer Wong, a criminology professor who led the study, told the Post.
“When you’re in high school, it’s a very limited arena in which you can establish your rank, and climbing the social ladder to be on top is one of the main ways … Bullying is a tool you can use to get there.”
Wong notes that many anti-bullying initiatives try to change the behavior of bullies, but often don’t work.
This is likely because behavior is hard-wired and not learned, she says..."

Bias-Free Language Guide claims the word 'American' is 'problematic'

Bias-Free Language Guide claims the word 'American' is 'problematic':
"“American,” “illegal alien,” “foreigners,” “mothering,” and “fathering” are just a handful of words deemed “problematic” by the University of New Hampshire’s Bias-Free Language Guide.
According to the university’s website, the guide “is meant to invite inclusive excellence in [the] campus community.”
Terms also considered problematic include: “elders,” “senior citizen,” “overweight,” “speech impediment,” “dumb,” “sexual preference,” “manpower,” “freshmen,” “mailman,” and “chairman,” in addition to many others.
The guide defines words such as “homosexual” as “problematic,” offering “Same Gender Loving” as a more inclusive substitute.
Similarly, a lack of gender-neutral bathrooms is, according to the university, “ciscentrism."

Texas Christian University Suspended Student for Saying Dumb Things on Facebook - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
"Harry Vincent, a student at Texas Christian University, was disciplined after someone—presumably a non-student—complained to TCU administrators about his comments on social media.
A TCU official then accused Vincent of “infliction of bodily or emotional harm,” instructed him to write a letter explaining how he should be punished, and ultimately suspended him.
Vincent’s sentence extends until graduation.
He is allowed to attend classes in the fall, but may not participate in extracurricular activities.
He must serve 60 hours of community service and take an “Issues in Diversity” course.
He is forbidden from living on campus.
What did Vincent do?
He tweeted some unkind remarks about Baltimore residents and Muslims.
Specifically, he referred to the “hoodrat criminals in Baltimore” and told someone to “chill the fuck out you islamic shit head.”

Coulter’s Challenge

Coulter’s Challenge | Mickey Kaus:
Ann Coulter and Donald Trump Walk Into … : I wasn’t entirely happy when I learned my friend Ann Coulter’s new book was going to be 100% about immigration.
Not because I feared she’d hurt the cause of immigration control — a defensive battle our side has been winning, so far, despite a concerted push by the entire Democratic party, half the Republican party, half (secretly) of the politicians who claim to represent the other half of the Republican party, virtually the entire press (including Fox), virtually all of business, and virtually all big money political donors (including the Kochs!).
It’s just that I’d found my own comfortable, sincere dogma on the subject, and I  worried that she’d upset it, which is what she tends to do.
My party line, in clip and save form, was:
1) The immigrants we get, including illegal Mexicans, are mainly hard-working potential citizens, like waves of immigrants before them;
2) The problem, as Mark Krikorian argues, is that we’ve changed, and the world has changed. We don’t need unskilled labor like we used to. Our native unskilled workers are having trouble earning a living.
3) The main reason to limit immigration flow, then, is to protect wages of Americans who do basic work. We desperately need a tight labor market. We won’t get it as long as millions of people from abroad respond to any tightening by flooding our work force.
4) The most important thing, then, is getting control of that number by securing the border — stopping illegal immigration. Once that’s done we can argue about what the legalnumber should be (and what should be done about current illegals).
5) But if wages are rising,  it could be a reasonably big number! See point 1;
6) There are second-order worries about cultural assimilation, especially the huge flow from Mexico, a nation a day’s drive away many of whose citizens (polls show) don’t acknowledge the legitimacy of our Southern border.
7) One solution is to let in more people from other, non-Mexican cultures — Koreans, Chinese, Africans, Indians, etc.  We want diversity! Ha ha. That joke never gets old.
All in all a nice, relatively safe, liberal restrictionism.
Works for me.
Sure enough, Coulter isn’t buying it.
She goes further.
Much further.
Perhaps too far!
Her book would be incendiary if Donald Trump hadn’t come along and made her look like Desmond Tutu.
Now maybe we can consider her six big points coolly and calmly.
Probably not, of course.
But here they are :..."
