"Australian academic and feminist Dr. Susan Carland recently spoke about sharia law, but not to denounce it as a sexist system of law that treats women as property but rather, to support it as an effective mechanism for promoting women’s rights.
Yes, Dr. Carland believes that sharia law can be used to persuade Muslim men that it’s wrong, for example, to stone and/or whip women who are victims of rape or for adultery.
Of course, this idea will remain theoretical since I’m not aware of any Islamic Republic in which sharia is used to champion female empowerment..."
