Oversight committee looking for Children's Protective Services fixes after scathing audit | MLive.com
See the source imageLANSING, MI - The House Oversight Committee on Thursday began hearings on a recent, scathing audit of the state's Children's Protective Services division in a search for solutions to help improve the state's handling of cases involving vulnerable children. 
The audit, released earlier this month, uncovered significant issues with how the state handled CPS cases. 
For instance, CPS workers did not assess the risk of future harm properly in over 35 percent of the cases, didn't refer cases to county prosecutors in 50 percent of the cases and did not provide required medical examinations for children in 15 percent of the cases.
