"In a post yesterday, I mentioned that major entitlement programs like Social Security are in danger of imploding, and several people commented that Social Security is not an entitlement since people pay into it.
Social Security IS an entitlement – literally. 
The confusion comes from people who think “entitlement” means a transfer program, like welfare, that the beneficiary doesn’t pay in to.
In reality, an entitlement is simply a government program for which you have to meet certain eligibility criteria to receive benefits.
Social Security has eligibility criteria (having enough work credits, being the right age, etc.) that, once met, legally entitles you to its benefits..."
