On a more direct note, I gotta say... the fact that these kinds of horrifyingly stupid values are starting to infiltrate the hard scientists should be deeply concerning for everyone who likes having things like computers, and internet, and food, functioning bridges and buildings that don't collapse.
The creeping Dark Ages mentality that's already hard at work destroying the humanities, journalism, and entertainment media is all fun and games to the potential destruction of engineering, physics, and math.
