Martin Feldstein: The Economy Is Worse Than You Think - WSJ.com
"The policies of the Obama administration have led to the weak condition of the American economy.
Growth during the coming year will be subpar at best, leaving high or rising levels of unemployment and underemployment.

The drop in GDP growth to just 1.8% in the first quarter of 2011, from 3.1% in the final quarter of last year, understates the extent of the decline.
Two-thirds of that 1.8% went into business inventories rather than sales to consumers or other final buyers.

This means that final sales growth was at an annual rate of just 0.6% and the actual quarterly increase was just 0.15%—dangerously close to no rise at all.
A sustained expansion cannot be built on inventory investment.
It takes final sales to induce businesses to hire and to invest"

NAACP Fights To Keep Kids Trapped in Failing Schools - Page 1 - Kyle Olson - Townhall Conservative
"Many civil rights groups around the nation have strongly supported school choice initiatives, mainly out of concern for inner-city children who have traditionally been stuck in sub-par schools.
Civil rights leaders understand that education is the key to escaping the cycle of poverty that’s prevalent in many inner-city neighborhoods.
Kids trapped in poorly run, dangerous schools often don’t receive the instruction required to move on to college or a decent job.
Those children need quality options like charter schools, or government vouchers to pay tuition at private schools, if they are going to have a chance to succeed.
Most civil rights leaders understand that concept and want to help children seek quality education beyond their geographic school district boundaries.
So why isn’t the NAACP on board?"

Understanding liberals

"The liberal vision of government is easily understood and makes perfect sense if one acknowledges their misunderstanding and implied assumptions about the sources of income.
Their vision helps explain the language they use and policies they support, such as income redistribution and calls for the rich to give something back.
Suppose the true source of income was a gigantic pile of money meant to be shared equally amongst Americans.
The reason some people have more money than others is because they got to the pile first and greedily took an unfair share.
That being the case, justice requires that the rich give something back, and if they won't do so voluntarily, Congress should confiscate their ill-gotten gains and return them to their rightful owners.
A competing liberal implied assumption about the sources of income is that income is distributed, as in distribution of income.
There might be a dealer of dollars.
The reason why some people have more dollars than others is because the dollar dealer is a racist, a sexist, a multinationalist or a conservative.
The only right thing to do, for those to whom the dollar dealer unfairly dealt too many dollars, is to give back their ill-gotten gains.
If they refuse to do so, then it's the job of Congress to use their agents at the IRS to confiscate their ill-gotten gains and return them to their rightful owners.
In a word, there must be a re-dealing of the dollars or what some people call income redistribution.
The sane among us recognize that in a free society, income is neither taken nor distributed; for the most part, it is earned.
Income is earned by pleasing one's fellow man.
The greater one's ability to please his fellow man, the greater is his claim on what his fellow man produces. Those claims are represented by the number of dollars received from his fellow man."

"A consultant hired by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be here Friday to help the Muskegon community design a road map for “smart growth.”
Muskegon County was one of only 32 communities in the nation selected this year to receive the technical assistance regarding economic development.
The specific program selected for Muskegon County is focused on identifying strategies and policies across all local governmental units to promote business expansion and retention.

The meeting, scheduled for Muskegon Community College's Collegiate Hall, is broken into two sessions.
The public is encouraged to attend the morning session, beginning at 9 a.m., while the afternoon session is geared toward local governmental officials.
By the end of the meeting, the consultant and local officials are expected to create an action plan and look for ways to build community consensus for a course of action involving the community's economic stability."

TOMORROW 9 a.m.!

"Will changing the shape of food guidelines get Americans in better shape?
The Obama administration hopes so.
Today, they unveiled a replacement for the food pyramid -- and this time they are using a circle."

The answer to the question is NO!

But these same government functionaries who scream for government to keep out of our bedrooms now want the feds in our kitchens 3 times a day.

I wonder if they will make a "snack plate" so the can live in our kitchens 24/7.

It took a government funded "study" to figure that out?

And guess what ALWAYS follows a government funded study that concludes people aren't smart enough to do something?

Yep! More federal/state money to make the people "smarter".

That always works...right?

Get Ready for QE3

Get Ready for QE3 NetRight Daily
"Times columnist Paul Krugman too jumps into the fray for his part.
He wants “W.P.A.-type programs putting the unemployed to work doing useful things like repairing roads… a serious program of mortgage modification, reducing the debts of troubled homeowners… [and] [w]e could try to get inflation back up to the 4 percent rate”.

Basically, the Left wants more of the same — more “stimulus”—which has already failed.
We know that because of the 4.2 percent decline in home values in the first quarter as measured by the S&P/Case Shiller home price index."

Off the 'gravy train'

Off the 'gravy train' - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
"'The debate about global warming has reached ridiculous proportions and is full of micro-thin half-truths and misunderstandings,' he says.
'I am a scientist who was on the carbon gravy train, understands the evidence, was once an alarmist, but am now a skeptic.'

Empirical evidence from the '90s showed that CO2 is not the primary driver of global temperatures, Evans says.
'(R)ather than admit they were wrong, the governments, and their tame climate scientists, now outrageously maintain the fiction that carbon dioxide is a dangerous pollutant.'

Naturally, Evans has been vilified by other 'experts' because of his remarks.

But, as with other skeptics, his assertions are dismissed, not debated.

It is, as Evans says, a comfortable gravy train for all aboard."

We'll talk about that today at 2:00

Public School Paradox: Record spending, mass teacher layoffs

"The Mackinac Center for Public Policy reports that in 2010 Michigan’s public school revenue totaled $19.4 billion.
That averages to $11,661 spent per student on day-to-day operating expenditures, and represents a 1.5 percent increase from 2009.
Despite the increase in overall spending, there is a steady drumbeat of news stories about how cash-strapped Michigan school districts are being forced to lay off teachers.
How can this be?"

DNC Chair: Republicans Believe Illegal Immigration 'Should be a Crime' CNSnews.com
"Wasserman Schultz at a Christian Science Monitor Breakfast on May 26.
“We have 12 million undocumented immigrants in this country that are part of the backbone of our economy and this is not only a reality but a necessity,' she said.
'And that it would be harmful--the Republican solution that I’ve seen in the last three years is that we should just pack them all up and ship them back to their own countries and that in fact it should be a crime and we should arrested them all.”"

Not withstanding the fact that no elected GOP has EVER said "we should pack them all up...." (doesn't that make her a liar?) her comment ought to be hilarious.

If it was a SNL skit.

But unfortunately, the chairman of the democrat party thinks illegal isn't a crime.

And she's got millions of followers who have that same notion.

We have a culture problem here in our once great country.

Editorial: Obama Recovery Still Feeble After Two Years - Investors.com
"Anyone think we're better off than we were two years ago?
On Tuesday, a trio of reports gave fresh evidence that the answer to this question is no.

Single family home prices dropped in March to their lowest level since April 2009;
the consumer Confidence Index tumbled to a six-month low of 60.8;
and regional manufacturing is slowing. In the Chicago area, it fell to its lowest level since November 2009"

Emanuel: Heat-Related Illness Forced North Avenue Beach Shutdown

Emanuel: Heat-Related Illness Forced North Avenue Beach Shutdown « CBS Chicago
"There had been some speculation about what really happened.
Police sources have a different explanation.
They said Tuesday that the beach was shut down in response to the large crowds of people showing up all at once, and police not having enough manpower to control the chaos.
Beachgoers at North Avenue have also faced the threat of violence from flash mobs and wilding on busy days in recent months.
Last month at North Avenue Beach, sources say a group of about 100 teens surrounded two people on bikes.
Both were knocked off their bikes and thrown into Lake Michigan.
Mayor Emanuel said he did not know anything about the reported crowd control problem."
