Re-post: Refugees bring poverty to Minnesota

Re-post: Refugees bring poverty to Minnesota « Refugee Resettlement Watch
...From May 2014:
Not too many words are necessary, the numbers say it all!
When Congress first debated the bill that became the Refugee Act of 1980 (Senators Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden were key sponsors), the debate centered around the admonition that we should not be importing MORE poverty to America.  Doesn’t take a genius to know that we are, but here is a handy graph of poverty rates among the foreign-born for Minnesota.
Be sure to note that 12% of all Minnesotans are below the poverty line.
So much for the idea being peddled everywhere that immigrants bring economic boom times where ever they go!  More like Cloward and Piven.
Highest poverty rates for MN immigrants: 2 in 3 Somali, 1 in 3 Hmong, 1 in 3 Mexicanhttp://pic.twitter.com/6WADnvHarG
By the way, we don’t bring refugees from China, India or Korea (some asylees but not direct resettlement).

New news!  Things continue to be hot in St. Cloud one of the primary resettlement sites for Somalis in Minnesota, go here to theMinneapolis Star Tribune about the latest from this past weekend.

And this! Minnesota needs $$$ to keep next generation of Somali youths from joining ISIS.
So remind me again!  What did we get out of this deal?

Want to know why voters are so mad? Mia Love has the answer

Want to know why voters are so mad? Mia Love has the answer: Glenn Reynolds:
We’ve seen it over and over: Congress passes huge bills, like Obamacare or the recent omnibus spending bill, that contain hundreds of provisions, and occupy thousands of pages — or tens of thousands if you include the ensuing pages of regulations.
These bills are so long that literally no one has read the whole thing.
They’re not so much bills, really, as Christmas trees on which lobbyists and legislators hang their goodies.
A bill that’s so long that nobody can read it is, naturally, pretty likely to escape scrutiny.
With thousands of pages and hundreds or thousands of provisions in the bill, what’s the chance that any particular provision will be noticed or criticized?
And even if a few provisions are criticized, when they’re tied to a bill that rewards literally hundreds of constituencies, there’s not much chance they’ll be shot down.
Legislators, and special interests, have a vested interest in sticking together and being sure that the whole bill passes.
Individually, most of these lousy provisions wouldn’t pass, but when banded together for mutual protection they can.
The result is something that doesn’t look much like the legislative process as we teach it in school. There aren’t hearings on each provision, there isn’t a lot of public debate, and there’s essentially no back-and-forth.
Often, most of the provisions are written by lobbyists and inserted by tame members of Congress. The public isn’t really represented at all.
That’s not an accident — it’s by design.
Enter Congresswoman Mia Love, a Republican from Utah. She wants to introduce a “single subject rule” to federal legislation.
Says Love, as quoted by the Deseret News: "Members of both parties have made a habit of passing complex, thousand-page bills without hearings, amendments or debate. ... That process and the collusion that goes with it are why we are $18 trillion in debt and why the American people have lost trust in elected officials."
Make the legislative process more transparent to the public
Importantly, the bill also provides for judicial review, allowing a court to strike legislation that doesn’t comply. And, in keeping with Love’s philosophy, the bill is just over three pages long.
Her bill, H.R. 4335, would do the following according to Love's congressional website:
  • Require that each bill enacted by Congress be limited to only one subject;
  • End the practice of attaching controversial legislation to unrelated, must-pass bills;
  • Require the subject of a bill to be clearly state in its title;
  • Make void in appropriations bills, general legislation that does not pertain to the underlying (appropriations) bill;
  • Make the legislative process more transparent to the public
Importantly, the bill also provides for judicial review, allowing a court to strike legislation that doesn’t comply.
And, in keeping with Love’s philosophy, the bill is just over three pages long...."

Obama Just Got ROCKED By U.S. Air Force's HUGE Announcement ⋆ US Herald:

"Translation: Terrorist attacks won’t be happening on Air Force facilities.

Why? They will be armed. No more, will there be a Chattanooga, Tennessee type of attack. It turns out that when the non-lunatic, non-criminal, non-terrorist folks have a firearm on them, there is a greater likelihood that mass casualty won’t be the outcome when an attack takes place."

Employers to get new rules to prove mythical gender wage gap

Employers to get new rules to prove mythical gender wage gap | Washington Examiner
The gender wage gap is due mostly to the choices women make in their careers and family lives, not to discrimination.
Yet the myth persists that women earn 78 cents to the dollar that men earn for doing the exact same job.
On Friday, President Obama announced a new regulation that would force employers to "collect summary pay data by gender, race and ethnicity from businesses with 100 or more employees."
Because even though the discrepancy is due mostly to the choices women make, why not set about trying to prove that it's all about discrimination?
The gender wage gape myth persists mostly because it is an easy talking point for Democrats looking to foment anger and resentment between men and women.
But it also persists because the data behind the gap make apples and oranges comparisons between the careers and hours of men and women.
The data do not compare "equal pay for equal work," as Democrats claim.
The White House knows this, yet continues to demonize employers and victimize women.
Now employers will be forced to spend time and money to collect and post the new data.
All of this to prove a problem that doesn't exist does in fact exist.
The new rules also require employers to collect information related to the hours worked by their employees.
This is but one factor in the gender wage gap, and ignores other factors such as education, experience, actual position and its requirements and time off..."

Gov’t Official: ‘Top Secret’ Hillary Clinton Emails Withheld by State Actually Put ‘Sources, Methods and Lives’ at Risk | TheBlaze.com

Gov’t Official: ‘Top Secret’ Hillary Clinton Emails Withheld by State Actually Put ‘Sources, Methods and Lives’ at Risk | TheBlaze.com:

"Some of the highly classified information on Hillary Clinton’s private unsecure server potentially put lives at risk, Fox News reported Monday.

On Friday, the State Department asserted it would not release 22 email messages to the public because of their high sensitivity. The Clinton campaign immediately objected and called for the messages to be released.

However, the intelligence community and the State Department determined the messages contained “operational intelligence” and the presence of such information on the unsecure server jeopardized “sources, methods and lives,” a government official told Fox News."

Secret Plan for Shariah Law Hiding in Surprising Place

Secret Plan for Shariah Law Hiding in Surprising Place:
Muhammad Fethullah Gülen is a Turkish Islamist, writer and preacher with a secret plan for bringing Shariah law to America.
Arguably Turkey’s most influential spiritual leader of the past 50 years, Gülen left that country in the late 1990s and now directs his cult-like Islamic movement from a guarded compound in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
Part of his empire consists of a thriving network of more than 140 charter schools in 26 states that sell themselves to parents as a secular and more academically rigorous alternative to public schools.
As the second largest chain of charter schools in the United States, Gülen schools rake in tens of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars every year.
But the schools — which have innocent-sounding names like the Horizon Science Academies in Illinois, Harmony School of Excellence in Washington, D.C., Dove Science Academies in Oklahoma and Magnolia Science Academies in California — have long been the subject of investigations into alleged corruption scandals involving influence peddling and visa abuse.
USA Today reported recently that the Gülen faith movement secretly funded 200 overseas trips for congressional lawmakers and staff since 2008.
“Turkish leaders have asked the United States to extradite Gülen from the remote compound in rural Pennsylvania where he has lived for 20 years.
The movement has founded hundreds of charter schools across the United States and around the world, has its own media organizations, and was deeply entrenched with the Turkish regime until a falling out two years ago. That led President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to declare Gülen was running ‘a parallel state’ inside the country with the intent of undermining the government.”
Critics argue that the schools also covertly engage in Islamic missionary outreach, usually after-hours or during school extra-curricular activities.
Anti-Shariah activist Pam Geller says Gülen has been dubbed “the Turkish Khomeini” for a reason.
“It has been widely reported for years that he wants ultimately to restore the Islamic caliphate in Turkey. That alone should make his charter schools in the U.S. a subject of law enforcement scrutiny, but it largely hasn’t,” Geller told WND. “There have been allegations that funds from these schools have gone to a Turkish Islamization movement, Hizmet. The U.S. government shouldn’t be funding Gülen’s schools; it should be investigating them and shutting them down.”

“Hitler Didn’t Snub Me — It Was Our President”

“Hitler Didn’t Snub Me — It Was Our President” | Foundation for Economic Education:
James Cleveland “Jesse” Owens famously won four gold medals, all at the 1936 games in Berlin, Germany.
But in the hearts of Americans who know their Olympic history, this African American man did more than win races: he struggled against racism.
At the time of Owens’s death in 1980 at age 66, President Jimmy Carter paid this tribute to him:
Perhaps no athlete better symbolized the human struggle against tyranny, poverty, and racial bigotry. His personal triumphs as a world-class athlete and record holder were the prelude to a career devoted to helping others. His work with young athletes, as an unofficial ambassador overseas, and a spokesman for freedom are a rich legacy to his fellow Americans.
Carter’s words were especially fitting in light of an unfortunate fact in Owens’s life: unforgivably, a previous American president had given him the brush-off.
...From one important man, however, no word of recognition ever came.
As Owens later put it, “Hitler didn’t snub me; it was our president who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send a telegram.”
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, leader of a major political party with deep roots in racism, couldn’t bring himself to utter a word of support, which may have been a factor in Owens’s decision to campaign for Republican Alf Landon in the 1936 presidential election.
FDR invited all the white US Olympians to the White House, but not Jesse.
“It all goes so fast, and character makes the difference when it’s close,” Owens once said about athletic competition.
He could have taught FDR a few lessons in character, but the president never gave him the chance. Owens wouldn’t be invited to the White House for almost 20 years — not until Dwight Eisenhower named him “Ambassador of Sports” in 1955..."

Finley: Trace Flint blame from water plant

Finley: Trace Flint blame from water plant:
The obsession with how the decision was made to switch Flint to its own water system, and who made it, is misplaced.
While it turned into a disaster, it would have been inconsequential had it not been for some bad and baffling choices made before the water started flowing to Flint residents.
On its own, changing from the Detroit Water and Sewerage System to a new regional authority should not have been so tragic for Flint.
Even drawing water from the Flint River should not have become such a big deal — the Flint River has been used before as a supplemental source.
Those actions on their own could be considered sound policy — they did save the busted city money — had it not been for the monumental screw-up at the Flint water treatment facility.
That mistake, as has been well reported, was to not add anti-corrosive chemicals to the water before it entered Flint’s ancient system of pipes.
I spent some time this week with several people in the water treatment field, and not one could figure out how such a basic additive was left out.
It’s standard practice to put anti-corrosives in water, particularly in older systems.
And had it been done in Flint, as Marc Edwards, the Virginia Tech professor who uncovered the high levels of lead in Flint water, told The Detroit News, “nearly all of the problems ... would not have occurred.”...

Why Is Obama Flooding Small Towns In The Most Conservative Parts Of America With Refugees?

Why Is Obama Flooding Small Towns In The Most Conservative Parts Of America With Refugees?:
"Why are small towns in conservative states being specifically targeted for refugee resettlement?
Of course the Obama administration will never publicly admit that this is happening, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what is going on.
Just look at the uproar that refugee resettlement is now causing in small communities in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and Kansas.
The Obama administration has deemed large cities such as Washington D.C. to be “too expensive” for the refugees, and so large numbers of them are being dispersed throughout smaller communities all over the nation.
If you drop a few hundred refugees into a major city of several million people, it isn’t going to make much of a difference.
But if you drop a few hundred refugees into a small town that has only a few thousand people living there, you can start to fundamentally alter the character of the whole area.
Could it be possible that this is yet another way that Barack Obama is attempting to “fundamentally transform” America?"

JOHN KERRY: THE BIBLE COMMANDS US TO PROTECT MUSLIMS FROM GLOBAL WARMING | RedFlag News:
SUPREME PATRIOT
Kerry begins this speech by stating that someone named ‘Shriek’ had drafted a strategy for American and Muslim relations.
Who this Shriek is exactly is unknown, but apparently his words ‘religion matters’ is ‘a mantra in the State Dept’.
Kerry continues stating that ‘our faiths’ referring to Christianity and Islam are ‘inextricably linked’.
Kerry’s words are bizarre, to say the least.
It’s basically a half-baked attempt to forge an affinity for Islam, and stating that the U.S. is now acquiescing to the Muslim Brotherhood, who has successfully infiltrated the United States to a great degree.
Stating that we have an obligation to protect Muslims from global warming seems like something out of the Twilight Zone series, only he’s not writing for T.V.
He expects you to jump on the Muslim train…

Documents show Flint filed false reports about testing for lead in water

Documents show Flint filed false reports about testing for lead in water | MLive.com
FLINT, MI – As concerns about Flint's water quality were mounting earlier this year, the city disregarded federal rules requiring it to seek out homes with lead plumbing for testing, potentially leading the city and state to underestimate for months the extent of toxic lead leaching into Flint's tap water.
City water officials filed certified documents with state regulators that claimed the city only tested tap water from homes where residents were at the highest risk of lead poisoning, but records obtained by The Flint Journal-MLive show those claims were false and may have delayed efforts to fix the public health emergency here.
Water samples sent to state labs for testing in the first six months of this year were all marked as having come from homes with lead service lines, but actually almost always came from homes at less risk of lead leaching – houses with underground plumbing made of copper, galvanized steel or materials that could not be identified, according to the city's own documents given to The Journal through the Freedom of Information Act.
In response to questioning, Flint Utilities Administrator Mike Glasgow said the city was struggling to collect the number of samples that were required following the city's switch to the Flint River as its water source in April 2014.
Records of the material in individual service lines were not readily available or did not exist, Glasgow said, leading the city to submit samples regardless of whether homes were at high risk of lead in water..."

‘This was all planned’: Former IG says Hillary, State Dept. are lying

‘This was all planned’: Former IG says Hillary, State Dept. are lying | New York Post
The State Department is lying when it says it didn’t know until it was too late that Hillary Clinton was improperly using personal e-mails and a private server to conduct official business — because it never set up an agency e-mail address for her in the first place, the department’s former top watchdog says.
“This was all planned in advance” to skirt rules governing federal records management, said Howard J. Krongard, who served as the agency’s inspector general from 2005 to 2008.
The Harvard-educated lawyer points out that, from Day One, Clinton was never assigned and never used a state.gov e-mail address like previous secretaries.
“That’s a change in the standard.
It tells me that this was premeditated.
And this eliminates claims by the State Department that they were unaware of her private e-mail server until later,” Krongard said in an exclusive interview. “How else was she supposed to do business without e-mail?”
He also points to the unusual absence of a permanent inspector general during Clinton’s entire 2009-2013 term at the department.
He said the 5¹/₂-year vacancy was unprecedented.
“This is a major gap. In fact, it’s without precedent,” he said.
“It’s the longest period any department has gone without an IG.”
Inspectors general serve an essential and unique role in the federal government by independently investigating agency waste, fraud and abuse.
Their oversight also covers violations of communications security procedures.
“It’s clear she did not want to be subject to internal investigations,” Krongard said.
An e-mail audit would have easily uncovered the secret information flowing from classified government networks to the private unprotected system she set up in her New York home..."

'Anti-capitalist' campus co-op faces shutdown because renters refuse to pay rent

'Anti-capitalist' campus co-op faces shutdown because renters refuse to pay rent - The College Fix:
Call it dwell-and-dash.
The Campbell Club at the University of Oregon is $17,000 in debt because, well, people take its anti-capitalist bona fides seriously.
Or they’re just lazy bums.
The Daily Emerald reports that the Student Cooperative Association, which oversees campus co-ops, will shut down the Campbell Club in two months if it doesn’t pay its tab:
Over the last few years, the Campbell Club has struggled with a high turnover rate.
Though rent is cheap — between $300 and $400 depending on the room — members tend to move in, stay for a few months and move out, often without paying the owed rent, the source of the debt. The co-op’s lack of funds and “anti-capitalist” stance make it reluctant to hire debt collectors.
Known on campus for its “hippies” and the “police raids” that end its parties, the Club is also basically a roach motel.
If you’re a journalism student, learn how to write ledes like this:
The Campbell Club’s dish drainer was “fucked.”
“I cut through the pipe and gallons of stagnant sink waste started spraying out,” said Waldo Przekop, the job and maintenance coordinator at the University of Oregon’s oldest co-op.
Drenched in foul-smelling fluid, Przekop ran to fellow co-opper Jimi Wood for help.
“He comes upstairs covered in straight poop water like, ‘Jimi help me!’ ” said Wood.
Wood toweled off Przekop’s face and the two of them rushed downstairs to fix the dish system. After much trial and error, they managed to get it running again.
“But people still throw food in the sink,” Przekop said, laughing.
They could have called a plumber, but the Campbell Club is already $17,000 in debt..."
