Donald Trump’s Election: Progressivism Rebuked | National Review

Donald Trump’s Election: Progressivism Rebuked | National Review:

"For some 150 years, the loudspeakers of progressivism boasted of the meritocracy of the college-educated, political policy by “experts,” and steady increases of the power of the federal government for the sake of “progress.” At the same, progressives disparaged the American founding, individual achievement, and business corporations. (Progressivism could be true only if the American founding were wrong.) The legend held that progressivism would lead to disinterested government — whereas corporations were the sole incubator of self-interest. Good and evil were easy to define: Good was more government, evil was more corporate power."

Dark money donations fuel ads meant to influence voters; lawmaker fights to keep donors secret

Dark money donations fuel ads meant to influence voters; lawmaker fights to keep donors secret - WXYZ.com:
"LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) - This election season, donors are shelling out millions of dollars to help produce ads designed to sway you, startle you and, most importantly, influence your vote.
While the intent of the ads are clear, the men and women paying for them is anything but.
"It is a license to corruption," says Rich Robinson, Executive Director of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
In Michigan, "issue ads" are given special protection under the law.
These commercials don’t explicitly tell you who to vote for, but they are designed to make you feel a certain way about a candidate and influence your vote.
When he was a candidate for Governor, Rick Snyder said this kind of “dark” money is dangerous because it conceals who’s “...trying to influence policy and for what reasons.”
"It’s a way to influence an election, without pretty much anyone knowing?" asked Channel 7's Ross Jones.
"That’s right, that’s right," Robinson said.
Secrecy, says Robinson, is the big appeal to donors, some of whom write checks totaling millions. While you can find out if someone seeking a contract or favorable law wrote a check to a politician’s campaign, you won't know who gives to these groups.
Since 2006, they've flooded Michigan airwaves with nearly $70 million in ads..."

Inside Fidel Castro’s life of luxury and ladies while country starved | New York Post
"With his shaggy beard and rumpled, olive-drab fatigues, Fidel Castro presented himself to the world as a modest man of the people.
At times, he claimed he made just 900 pesos ($43) a month and lived in a “fisherman’s hut” somewhere on the beach.
But Castro’s public image was a carefully crafted myth, more fiction than fact.
“While his people suffered, Fidel Castro lived in comfort — keeping everything, including his eight children, his many mistresses, even his wife, a secret,” wrote Juan Reinaldo Sanchez, Castro’s longtime bodyguard.
Sanchez’s book, “The Double Life of Fidel Castro: My 17 Years as Personal Bodyguard to El LĂder Maximo,” describes his former boss’s hidden life of political ruthlessness, mistresses and greed.
Castro, who died Friday night at 90, made a personal fortune offering safe haven to drug traffickers, bedded a bevy of women over the decades, and once threatened his own brother, Raul, with execution when the brother lapsed into alcoholism in the ’90s, Sanchez’s book reveals.
...Castro kept 20 luxurious properties throughout the Caribbean nation, including his own island, accessed via a yacht decorated entirely in exotic wood imported from Angola, Sanchez wrote.
But while he made good on some of his promises to educate and care for his people — building free schools and hospitals with the help of his Soviet sponsors — Castro’s legacy was also one of repression and hypocrisy.
Deep poverty persisted — teen prostitution, crumbling houses, food rations.
Political opponents were executed by the thousands by firing squad, or sentenced to decades of hard labor...

Thoughtcrime: Germany To Prosecute Online 'Hate Speech' | Daily Wire:

"In an attempt to control the recent uptick in xenophobia and racism, largely exacerbated by sudden demographic shifts linked to Berlin’s refugee-intake program, German authorities are now prosecuting arbitrarily-defined “hate speech,” otherwise known as free speech, with what appears to be de facto blasphemy laws.

On Wednesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel backed a federal program to monitor and police internet activity on popular social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.  "

Castro’s Socialism and Death

Castro’s Socialism and Death | Frontpage Mag:
"In the fall of 1962, Fidel Castro urged his Soviet allies to wipe out the United States.
The Butcher of Havana told Khrushchev to “to eliminate this danger forever”.
By that he meant destroying the United States of America in a nuclear assault.
“However harsh and terrible the solution, there would be no other,” he reasoned.
The Soviet leader replied warning of a “war of extermination” with “millions of deaths".
He called Castro’s proposal, the “start of a thermonuclear world war”.
Khrushchev flinched from an orgy of death that would have wiped out most of the US, the USSR and Cuba.
Castro did not.
He was willing to see the world die rather than yield power.
Now the dictator who liked to shout, “Socialism or Death” is dead and out of power.
Castro’s slogan was “Socialism or Death”.
But his real legacy was “Socialism and Death”..."

WikiLeaks: U.S. Government Armed And Funded Yemeni Forces

WikiLeaks: U.S. Government Armed And Funded Yemeni Forces:

"The Obama administration has made 42 separate weapons deals with Yemen since 2009, totaling $115 billion, according to a September report from the Center for International Policy.

With Yemen sitting at an important “narrow choke point” for oil trade passing through the Middle East, the war in Yemen was largely strategic, Wikileaks said.

The State Department has warned Obama the U.S. would almost certainly be accused of committing war crimes in the Yemeni conflict by providing logistical and intelligence support to the Saudi-led coalition. The Obama administration has, nevertheless, approved $1.3 billion in arms sales to Saudi Arabia since 2015."

Paul Krugman: Comey, Putin 'installed' the 'crazy, vindictive' Trump

Paul Krugman: Comey, Putin 'installed' the 'crazy, vindictive' Trump | Washington Examiner:
"New York Times columnist Paul Krugman mocked Donald Trump's claims that he lost the popular vote due to people voting illegally, while floating conspiracy theories of his own surrounding the election.
"So [FBI Director James] Comey and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin installed a crazy, vindictive, can't-handle-the-truth person in the White House. Scary," Krugman tweeted on Sunday.
Trump is losing to Hillary Clinton in the popular vote by around 2 million votes, but has 306 electoral votes compared to Clinton's 232, with 270 required to win the presidency.
Trump tweeted on Sunday that he would have won the popular vote had he campaigned in three or four high-populous states. He added that he would have won the popular vote "if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally."
Top Democrats and Krugman blamed Comey for Clinton's electoral loss, pointing to his decision to reopen an investigation into Clinton's private e-mail server about two weeks before the election.
An examination of Anthony Weiner's e-mails for an unrelated probe into allegedly lewd exchanges with an underage girl prompted the reexamination of the Clinton e-mail probe.
Comey announced a few days before the election that he had not found any new evidence, and reiterated his decision not to charge Clinton.
A report in New York Magazine prompted speculation among Democrats over whether voting irregularities, allegedly from Russia, put Trump ahead in states Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Currently there is no hard evidence to suggest of such irregularities.
However, Green Party Nominee Jill Stein requested a recount in Wisconsin and is eyeing a similar request in Michigan and Pennsylvania."

Dakota Access Pipeline Facts Protesters Don’t Want You to Know
"For more than three months, thousands of protesters, most of them from out of state, have illegally camped on federal land in Morton County, North Dakota, to oppose the construction of a legally permitted oil pipeline project that is 85 percent complete.
The celebrities, political activists, and anti-oil extremists who are blocking the pipeline’s progress are doing so based on highly charged emotions rather than actual facts on the ground.
This 1,172-mile Dakota Access pipeline will deliver as many as 570,000 barrels of oil a day from northwestern North Dakota through South Dakota and Iowa to connect to existing pipelines in Illinois.
It will do this job far more safely than the current method of transporting it by 750 rail cars a day.
Image result for Dakota Access Pipeline...Just like the companies that run the 10 other fossil-fuel pipelines crossing the Missouri River upstream of Standing Rock, Energy Transfer Partners—the primary funder of this pipeline—is taking all necessary precautions to ensure that the pipeline does not leak.
But even if there were a risk, Standing Rock will soon have a new water intake that is nearing completion much further downstream near Mobridge, South Dakota.
From the outset of this process, Standing Rock Sioux leaders have refused to sit down and meet with either the Army Corps of Engineers or the pipeline company.
The Army Corps consulted with 55 Native American tribes at least 389 times, after which they proposed 140 variations of the route to avoid culturally sensitive areas in North Dakota.
The logical time for Standing Rock tribal leaders to share their concerns would have been at these meetings, not now when construction is already near completion.
...Though these protesters claim to be gathered for peaceful prayer and meditation, law enforcement has been forced to arrest more than 400 in response to several unlawful incidents, including trespassing on and damaging private land, chaining themselves to equipment, burning tires and fields, damaging cars and a bridge, harassing residents of nearby farms and ranches, and killing and butchering livestock....
...All that remains for the pipeline project to be completed is for the Army Corps of Engineers to issue a final easement to cross the Missouri River at Lake Oahe.
...The simple fact is that our nation will continue to produce and consume oil, and pipelines are the safest and most efficient way to transport it. Legally permitted infrastructure projects must be allowed to proceed without threat of improper governmental meddling.
The rule of law matters.
We cannot allow lawless mobs to obstruct projects that have met all legal requirements to proceed.

"From Jimmy Carter To Jill Stein To Hollywood and Foreign Leaders.. The Rewriting Of History and Praise For The Dead Communist Dictator Of Cuba Continues To Pour In
You know, after witnessing the left react to things, in the most abnormal ways for so many years, I have to admit, they still manage to shock me from time to time.
The death of Castro is yet another example. Watching world leaders, leftist politicians and American citizens, (who live in comfort thanks to the sacrifice of so many Americans who gave their lives for their freedom) praise a brutal communist ruler who executed over 75,000 people, who he believed to be a threat to his dictatorship, is not only bizarre, but downright disgusting.
And it's not only the praise, it's the rewriting of his violent history.
He's now considered by many on the left to be a "Freedom Fighter" and "Social Justice Leader" or "Reformer!"
Wow!
Enslaving an island for 50 plus years, to the point that thousands would risked their lives in shark infested waters to have a taste of freedom, now makes you a hero in the eyes of the left.
With the much anticipated death of a brutal, communist dictator like Fidel Castro, Liberals expose their own love of enslavement. Leftists despise Liberty so much they are happy to surrender it in exchange for “free” stuff. Just take a look at this tweet from a leftist praising Cuba's... "Free Stuff" ... that isn't free and isn't great at all. But then again, how would she know, she doesn't live there. She just buys into what the communist propagandist in the media, Hollywood and academia tell her.
"In Cuba everyone has free healthcare, free education and affordable housing, electricity, water, food. Just saying."https://twitter.com/SJG99/status/802421243672674304…
Ah, yes. “Free.” So I’m guessing the Cubans who risk their lives to escape this Nirvana are just ungrateful. What’s a little imprisonment in Cuba compared to “free” education and healthcare and “affordable” housing, electricity, water, and food? Ironic, isn’t it? Leftists cry and moan about “over-incarceration” yet they praise Fidel Castro for incarcerating an entire island nation for nearly sixty years. Why? Because they get “Free Stuff!!!”
Want a peek into what Cuba's "Free Healthcare" looks like?
How about "Free Education?"
Does this mind-numbed Leftist moron believe that slavery in the US wouldn’t have been such a bad thing provided the slaves got free healthcare and education? Wouldn’t you rather be a kept human?
Sure, you’re not allowed to speak your mind. You can’t choose where you want to live or how you want to live. And, yeah. You might find yourself on the wrong end of a firing squad. Worse still, you won’t be able to defend yourself because you happily surrendered your own self-protection. But think of all the things you’ll get for free!!! So long as you obey. I swear, Liberalism’s default setting leans toward totalitarianism.
People like this deeply ignorant Leftist and Jimmy Carter and a host of others, praising Castro don’t have any idea what it’s like to live under tyranny. Yet in their ignorance, they wax longingly for it.
The problem is, they have been taught in a corrupt education system that advances Marxism and socialism.
Goal #17 of the 45 Goals of Communism: http://rense.com/general32/americ.htm
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
And while this education system praises tyranny, it goes out of its way to slander and demean our country’s founding.
Goals 29 and 30 of the 45 Goals of Communism:
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
Our Founders gave us the greatest gift in the history of the world: Freedom. And these ungrateful, mindless ass-hats want to exchange that gift for enslavement.
Nobody is forcing them into slavery; they are willingly enslaving themselves. Why, for "Free Stuff!" How cheaply some will sell their liberty and souls for something they think is "Free!"
No, Fidel Castro, nor his brother Raul, nor Che Guevara or any of their evil executioners, were "Freedom Fighters" ... they were tyrants! And the praise for them and rewriting of their vicious legacy is a disgrace! If you want Free Stuff, go live under that brutal regime or North Korea's and other one of these communist hell holes, but don't come back after you find out what you sold your soul for. Live with your mistake.

Virginia school board member resigns after profane anti-Trump social media rant - The College Fix:
"A member of the Lynchburg City (Virginia) School Board has resigned in the wake of an obscenity-laden Facebook post ripping the election of Donald Trump.
The Roanoke Times reports Jenny Poore wrote (among other things)  “f— you and your s—– straight white man version of America” in her diatribe while claiming the president-elect has an “obvious and clear amphetamine addiction” and is a “sexual assaulter.”
Poore admits she would have “considered her language more carefully had she known the post would go public,” but said “her conscience compelled her to act.”
She said the controversial comments weren’t the only reason for her resignation; with her being a “lightning rod for outside distractions,” her departure was best “to preserve the integrity of the board.”
From the article:
[Poore] stated she was not asked or pressured to step down, and the decision was her own.
...Poore said “a number of people have reached out to her” offering their thanks for her speaking out. In addition, some fellow board members praised her, saying she has “an incisive mind” and is “a champion for different students of all backgrounds.”

"A month ago, progressives were having a conniption fit over Trump’s refusal to accept the outcome of the election. So of course, now that Trump has won, they are rioting, vandalizing, staging “cry-ins,” ditching class, group-hugging, tweeting threats, calling names, seeking counseling, and doing everything in their power to make sure that their party declines even further. If this behavior continues, and if––a big “if” –– Trump governs the way he promised, we may be witnessing the start of the progressive disintegration.

Anger Rooms: A Smashing New Way to Relieve Stress

Anger Rooms: A Smashing New Way to Relieve Stress - The New York Times:
"When she was a teenager on the South Side of Chicago in the late 1990s, Donna Alexander fantasized about setting up a space where stressed-out people could relieve their tension in a safe, nonviolent way — by smashing mannequins, televisions, furniture and other objects. She was confident in her idea, but she wasn’t sure how to turn it into a business.
Finally, in the fall of 2008, and by then living in Dallas, Ms. Alexander began an experiment.
Image result for anger rooms She invited current and past co-workers to her garage to pulverize items she had collected from the curbs in her neighborhood.
“I would play music on my laptop and just let them have at it,” she says. She charged $5.
Soon, word of the stress-relief sessions spread throughout Dallas.
“I started getting strangers at my door asking if my house was the place to break stuff,” Ms. Alexander said.
“When that happened, I knew I had a business.”
Over the next few years while she looked for a suitable location for the company, Ms. Alexander accrued a four-month waiting list.
In December 2011, she quit her job as a marketing manager for a steakhouse to officially start the Anger Room in a 1,000-square-foot space in downtown Dallas.
The Anger Room charges $25 for five minutes of crushing printers, alarm clocks, glass cups, vases and the like.
Prices rise to about $500 for custom room setups.
The most expensive setup so far has been a faux retail store, replete with racks of clothing.
Several other anger rooms have popped up around the world, including in Houston, Toronto, Niagara Falls and Australia.
The American presidential election increased business at some anger rooms. Stressed-out voters traveled all the way to Toronto from New York before and after the election, says Steve Shew, co-founder of the Rage Room there.
Customers wrote the name of the candidate they were frustrated with on a plate and smashed it.
At the Anger Room in Dallas, mannequins of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were taking beatings before the election.
Customers demolished two Clinton mannequins, requiring replacements.
But Trump attracted even more ire.
“We’ve gone through at least three of the male mannequins that we have to dress up as Donald Trump,” Ms. Alexander says."

Fidel’s Flatterers: The U.S. Media’s Decades of Cheering Castro’s Communism

Fidel’s Flatterers: The U.S. Media’s Decades of Cheering Castro’s Communism
"While every other country in the Western Hemisphere moved towards democracy, Cuba remained a one-party state under dictator Fidel Castro, who held power without free elections from 1959 until health problems forced him to step aside in 2006.
Castro’s communist regime executed hundreds of political opponents and drove tens of thousands more into exile; hundreds of dissidents today languish in Cuban prisons.
The U.S. State Department, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch all listed Castro’s Cuba as among the worst violators of human rights on the planet, while the Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the harassment and imprisonment of journalists.
Yet liberals in the U.S. media — who rightly condemned such abuses when perpetrated by dictators such as Chile’s Augusto Pinochet — inexplicably remain enchanted with Castro and his socialist revolution. For more than five decades, positive profiles of Castro have appeared in U.S. papers. Back on January 18, 1959, New York Timesreporter Herbert L. Matthews exulted in Castro’s seizure of Cuba: “Everybody here seems agreed that Dr. Castro is one of the most extraordinary figures ever to appear on the Latin-American scene. He is by any standards a man of destiny.
For almost 30 years, the Media Research Center has documented the liberal media’s infatuation with Fidel Castro and Cuba’s communism. The most laudatory coverage of Castro and his communist revolution’s “achievements” have come when an American news network decides to visit Cuba for an in-depth examination. Invariably, the U.S. networks granted access to Cuba have rewarded the communist government with promotional coverage of both Fidel Castro and the supposed achievements of his revolution:
■ In February 1988, just weeks after the State Department named communist Cuba one of the worst human rights oppressors in the world, NBC’s Today program sent its cameras to the island to investigate. NBC’s conciliatory approach allowed Castro to spew lies about his drug connections and the wonderful achievements of the Cuban revolution. Anchor Maria Shriver gushed: “The level of public services was remarkable: free education, medicine and heavily subsidized housing,” while reporter Ed Rabel was equally promotional: “There is, in Cuba, government intrusion into everyone’s life, from the moment he is born until the day he dies. The reasoning is that the government wants to better the lives of its citizens and keep them from exploiting or hurting one another....On a sunny day in a park in the old city of Havana it is difficult to see anything that is sinister.”
■ “When outsiders think of Cuba, it’s often the lack of political freedoms and economic power that comes to mind. Cubans who have chosen to stay on the island, however, are quick to point out the positives: safe streets, a rich and accessible cultural life, a leisurely lifestyle to enjoy with family and friends....For all its flaws, life in Castro’s Cuba has its comforts, and unknown alternatives are not automatically more attractive....Many foreigners consider it propaganda when Castro’s government enumerates its accomplishments, but many Cubans take pride in their free education system, high literacy rates and top-notch doctors. Ardent Castro supporters say life in the United States, in contrast, seems selfish, superficial, and — despite its riches — ultimately unsatisfying.”
— Associated Press writer Vanessa Arrington in an August 4, 2006 dispatch, “Some Cubans enjoy comforts of communism.”

Articles: The Pathological Intolerance of the Left:

"A New Mexico CEO, Mathew Blanchfield,  appeared on Tucker Carlson's show Wednesday night to defend the letter he posted on his website, 1st in SEO in New Mexico, telling his clients who voted for or support Donald Trump to take their business elsewhere.  In his letter, he calls Trump "racist, sexist, fascist."  He asked his clients to respond and confirm "where you stand politically. If you are a Republican or support Trump, we will no longer serve you." "

Language Police Liberals Serve Political Ends with Politically Correct Terms

Language Police Liberals Serve Political Ends with Politically Correct Terms | National Review:
"What would happen if conservatives started to change the words we use for political ends? Throughout history, revolutionaries of all stripes have warped the meaning of words to subvert reality.
And now here we go again, with another effort — spearheaded by the media and universities — to use any linguistic means necessary to achieve political ends.

  • “Sanctuary city” is a euphemism for the local and state nullification of federal law — a subversive tactic that dates back to the nullification crises during the Andrew Jackson administration and, later, in the years leading up to the Civil War.
This makes a mockery of the simple constitutional principle that cities and states cannot subversively pick and choose which federal laws to obey.
The term “sanctuary” would never apply to conservative jurisdictions that in similar fashion sought to offer “sanctuary” to those dissidents who disobeyed federal gun registration, income tax, or environmental laws.
College administrators boast of offering counseling and therapeutic help to students and faculty members distraught over the recent election.
They use terms like “divisive” and “polarizing” in describing the election, when in truth they wish to hide from their donors, alumni, and half the country their own abject and one-sided contempt for incoming president-elect Donald Trump.
Note that in the highly emotional elections of 2008 and 2012, universities did not offer commensurate counseling services — because their own preferred candidate won and was thus his victory was not “polarizing.”
  • Campus “safe space” is another vocabulary distortion...
  • “Microaggression” is certainly not aggression as usually defined...
Both right-wing Nazi Germany and the left-wing Soviet Union banned old words and created new words that furthered political agendas and warped reality.

  • “Trigger warning” should mean that readers or viewers are advised that literature or media could be obscene or threatening...
  • Next came the term “undocumented immigrant” — on the theory that the ancient word “alien” (from the Latin word alienus, meaning “belonging to another”) is offensive and also unhelpful to the open-borders project.
  • Finally, the ambiguous word “migrant” is being used to suggest that there is really no difference between entering and exiting a country under any circumstances.
The danger of destroying rules of language is that revolutionaries of any stripe can join this crooked game.
What if a right-wing movement wished to redefine “sanctuary cites” as “subversive cities”?
Would it be any more biased to call the sites of university post-election counseling services “progressive lamentation centers”?
...To prevent this endless cycle of corrupting words, members of the media and academia should act as our linguistic guardians.
Instead, for short-term political gain, they have abandoned their professional responsibilities to become our worst subverters of language."
