81% of Americans say people are too easily offended these days - Washington Times
"Culture may seem to be dominated by trigger warning and hypersensitivity.
A sizable new poll, however, finds that 81% of Americans agree that “people are too easily offended these days,” an opinion that also spans political beliefs.
The poll found that 94% of Republicans, 82% of independents and 70% of Democrats agree with this idea.
The finding comes from a Morning Consult poll of more than 13,000 U.S. adults.
The public also reveals a certain weariness with both the culture wars and the social dynamics at work these days.
Only about a third of Americans would describe themselves as “politically correct.”...

Take the lead, Holy Father: Tear down that wall!
...The wall in these photos is something more impressive than anything even Donald Trump could build."

"You don't have to be a user of Facebook's or Google's services for them to have enough breadcrumbs to ID you," warns Slashdot schwit1. From the article:By intercepting the data transmissions, they discovered that 92 percent of the 36 apps shared the data with at least one third party -- mostly Facebook- and Google-run services...

Backreaction: Yes, scientific theories have to be falsifiable. Why do we even have to talk about this?
Thursday, April 25, 2019
An hypothesis that is not falsifiable through observation is optional.
You may believe in it or not.
Such hypotheses belong into the realm of religion.

Yes, scientific theories have to be falsifiable. Why do we even have to talk about this?
The task of scientists is to find useful descriptions for our observations.
By useful I mean that the descriptions are either predictive or explain data already collected.
An explanation is anything that is simpler than just storing the data itself.
You may believe in it or not.
Such hypotheses belong into the realm of religion.
That much is clear, and I doubt any scientist would disagree with that..."

Catherine Pugh missing as FBI, IRS raid Baltimore office, home - Washington Times
"The days keep getting worse for (DEMOCRAT) Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh.
On Thursday, federal agents raided her homes and offices, Maryland’s governor called for her resignation “for the good of the city” and speculation swirled about her whereabouts, as she presumably is still recovering from a bout of pneumonia.

Fellow Democrats have referred to her business venture, which brought her hundreds of thousands of dollars, as “self-dealing” and the ongoing scandal “an embarrassment.”...
